When I create a Movie with Windows Movie Maker, can I use Control A to select all the pictures from my Picasa folder? Will they stay in order? I don’t want to lose all the hard work already done. I have a created a slide show and movie in Picasa with music, but am not satisfied with the finish products. I thought Movie Maker might give a better completed project. Enjoyed watching all your videos on doing this, but did not see anything about order other than you can rearrange. I don’t want to have to do that.

You’re right that Movie Maker will give you a better final result. Or even Photo Story 3.
As for the sort order – realize that Movie Maker (or Photo Story 3) is getting the pictures from your computer’s folders – the same place that Picasa is getting them. If you have moved pictures around using Picasa – that only affects their order while viewing them with Picasa. It has not changed the order on disk. On disk they are probable in filename order, so that is how they will come into Movie Maker.
Please watch this Picasa tutorial video: Exporting Pictures for Use in Another Program
Since this was recorded, Picasa has added a button to the Export screen to keep your pictures in your sort order. It’s just a little checkbox: “Add numbers to filenames to preserve Order”

If the caption is there, it comes in with the picture. I see mine right away. Once in Movie Maker, the captions are on a separate track from the pictures and can get moved to completely different places. It’s up to you to keep them together. Sometimes that’s a bit of a problem. They can be shortened/lengthened and moved on their track just like the pictures.

See my screenshot below. I see the captions in pink below the pictures, then there are options as for how to see captions on the video track in your completed movie. Make sure to watch the video on “What are Tracks” I don’t specifically deal with captions there, but it should help understand how they get moved independently from the pictures. I usually end up removing captions that come in with the pictures because it’s a lot of work to keep them in sync with their photos.
Did you take a look at Photo Story 3 first as a tool for making your movie. It’s easier than Movie Maker … but it has limitations. You can’t use any video clips, and you can’t have more than 40 or so pictures.

checked my movie and the captions that I put in picasa do not show in MM and there is no track. I can’t use photo story 3 as I have too many photos. So I may try one more time capturing all the photos from picasa and placing them in Movie Maker. I now know where to look for the caption track. I will keep you posted on this adventure.
I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to have a place to go for help. It IS and continues to be a wonderful investment.

we are on the same page. I had gone through the number of pictures and labeled a great number of them – caption area – with the location and what it was. We traveled to Hungary, Vienna, Germany and Czech Republic – so you can see why I want to do that for our friends and myself. We tend to forget where a photo was taken. I have not begun again, but have tried to read everything I can on the process. If you recall my earliest comment was that when you open MM and try to browse to the photos in Picasa they would not show up so I did CtrlA to get them from the bottom hold. Crazy project, but I am determined to make it work. Can’t imagine what adding music will do.
