I’ve tried compatibility mode without success. I can create a movie provided I don’t add any music or try to record any audio.

Adding audio brings up an error message referring to Media player. ???

Bob,

You are not the only person with Photo Story 3 issues. Remember, it is old and crotchety.

I have it running on two of my Windows 10 computers and everything works. Narration and music, too.

Here is a possible fix for you I found:

I have upgraded to Windows 10 and, needless to say, Photo Story 3 for Windows wouldn’t run. I tried trouble shooting the compatibility, but nothing I did made any difference. In the end, I uninstalled it and tried to install it again, but it wouldn’t reinstall. In both cases I was receiving a message that it was incompatible with the operating system. Then on a Web site I found instructions for getting it to work on Windows 8.1 (not Windows 10), but I thought I’d try the same thing anyway. I cannot guarantee it will work or won’t damage your computer. It’s at your own risk Here are the instructions:
In Windows 10 right click the Start button and choose – Command Prompt (admin).
Copy and paste the following command and press Enter
msiexec.exe /i Pstory.msi /passive SKIPOSCHECK=1 NOLEGITCHECK=1
Copy and paste one of the following depending on your system.
For 32 bit:
rename %windir%\System32\LegitCheckControl.DLL LegitCheckControl.Disabled.DLL
For 64 bit
rename %windir%\SysWOW64\LegitCheckControl.DLL
Press Enter
After this I was able to re-install Photo Story, but it still didn’t work.
Next I found the Photo story exe file, right clicked it and chose Run as Administrator. This didn’t seem to do anything either. Then I right clicked the exe file again and chose Troubleshoot compatibility. It went through the process and after that Photo Story worked and is still working. Nothing major appears to have happened to my computer.
Good luck
