while putting together a presentation on wifi for an upcoming rally I ran across several wifi analysis apps for android devices. Three of these apps stood out in particular:
WiFi Analyzer – provides a channel graph so you can see which access points you are competing with for bandeidth, time graph which helps identify the strongest signal, channel rating, access point list, and a signal meter
WiFi Network Analyzer – similar functionality to WiFi Analyzer with a little more user friendly dashboard
I was able to test both of these with my Rand McNally Tablet. The third and most intriguing app is”3G 4G WiFi Maps & Speed Test” from opensignal. It provides a direction indicator for locating an RV park’s Access Point antenna along with several other intriguing features. The Rand McNally tablet uses Amazon to load app’s rather than the Google Play Store app and the opensignal app isn’t available thru Amazon, at this time. So, for now I haven’t tested the 3G 4G WiFi Maps & Speed Test app.
