Jim and Chris,
We are in Mexico for the winter and roaming is $.99 per minute. I have suspended service and use Skype on the laptop. Is wifi only use available from a hot spot on my Droid Razr? Would data roaming have to be enabled? That could get pricey. Right now my phone won’t even pick up a wifi signal.
Thanks.

I’ll try to explain better what I’m trying to accomplish.
I have my service suspended so cellular service is off. I’m attempting to connect to the wifi in our RV Park or in a hotspot. I’m not trying to turn my Droid into a hotspot. The Park wifi shows up as being available but it won’t connect to it. Data roaming is off. Seems like I should be able to do this but can’t get the right combination of settings maybe. Our friends have an iphone and are able to connect and use the wifi. Thanks.

Ok,
yes, you should certainly be able to connect to a WiFi hotspot with your phone. In your settings, WiFi needs to be on. Your data service would be off. Any hotspots on your phone, like FoxFi, should be Off.
If that doesn’t work, you may want to reboot your phone. Just as with a computer, reboot solves a multitud of issues. Power off the phone, then turn it back on.

Tried the hard reboot, no luck. Wifi is turned on and shows a fair signal is available, (it does not appear on the home screen) Under Advanced Wifi I have a MAC address and no IP address is available. Under Data Usage, mobile data is Off and Restrict background data is unchecked. I don’t know what else to check. Any more good ideas???? Thanks. Oh yea, I’ve double checked the password and it’s correct and shows it as “saved, secured with WEP”. Can’t find any info on-line either.
