I have a question. Does the PDANET tether to an iPad also?
Answer:  It depends.
PDANet is software from June Fabrics that allows you to tether your smart phone and use that data plan to connect a computer.  PDANet is available for most Droid phones, Blackberries, and iPhones.
I have not used PDANet to let my iPad use the Droid’s Internet connection directly.  I use FoxFi (now bundled with PDANet) on the Droid and connect wirelessly.
If you have PDANet on an iPhone (requires jailbreak), you can wirelessly tether.  I have done this for a friend.
Direct USB tether requires software running on the target device.
You can use the Bluetooth Dial Up Networking included with PDANet, but that is a slower connection.
If you want to go the other way, you can jailbreak your cellular iPad and install PDANet on it to wirelessly tether other devices.
