Hi Jim and Chris, This may be a phone issue and not a G-photos issue. I have the Motorola Turbo 2 phone that is almost 2 years old. When I modify a photo I get a pop-up that says Loading and the little dial just spins. Sometimes it will take 5 minutes or more and it’s frozen and I have to reboot. This happens on a wifi connection and not cellular. I don’t modify on cellular. Thanks.
When you say, “I modify a photo” do you mean that you’re using Google Photos, you tap on one photo, then tap the edit button?
Or are you using a Gallery app? or ..?
You mention that you only do this on WiFi … are you sure the WiFi is good speed? Try using Ookla speed test on it to find out.
Are you having any other issues with the phone?
My first thought is to clear cache on the phone – Settings, Storage, you should see a number for Cached data – tap that to clear, then OK.
If that doesn’t help, you can clear cache and data for Google Photos, just realize that Google Photos needs to re-set up if you do this. But, that may very well fix the issue.
- on your Android device, open the Settings app
- tap Apps (or Application Manager)
- tap Google Photos
- tap Storage
- tap CLEAR DATA

Yes, I am using Google Photos and should have said edit rather than modify. I cleared the cache and ran a speed test. Ping is 15, Upload 7.54 and Download .71. This problem occurs not only with Google Photos but with other data as well. I’m not having other issues with the phone but it very well could be the phone as it’s almost 2 years old. Appreciate your thoughts.
Well – .71 download is really, really, slow, so it could be that and the fact that the phone is old. But, it still shouldn’t freeze completely.
How about storage space? Is your phone full?
How about the Google PHotos app itself? Is it up to date.
What I’m trying to say is, slowness is to be expected – but if you can’t edit a photo at all, something must be wrong.

Google Photos is up to date but the phone is old and probably getting close to full if not already. That and the fact that we are in Mexicobut I’m trying to edit on wifi. I will do some more clean up and see what happens when we get back to the states in March. I can wait until then to do the edits. Thanks for your help.
