Just experimenting, I registered my fingerprint on my Galaxy 5 phone, which then led to creating a password (no choice).  I don’t like to enter the password every time I use the phone and would like to delete it.  I changed settings to the maximum time (30 minutes) before PW is required, but I would just like to eliminate that feature altogether.  If I go to reset settings, would that take out the PW requirement?  In the meantime, I need to know how to back up all settings and apps on the phone.  I think I should not have “experimented.”

You started out by saying that you registered your fingerprint … that means you can use your fingerprint to unlock the phone. Does that work for you?

The password required there is just for backup purpose if your fingerprint doesn’t work.

To turn all security off, you should be able to go into your settings->lock screen->Screen Security, and change it to Swipe = no security.

Let me know if that works for you.

No luck.  An email question to Samsung gave me the same answer, but “swipe” and “none” are grayed out.  Fingerprint does not work.  There must be other administrative features and/or credentials in there somewhere.  Samsung recommended I go to Verizon for further help.  I’ll post a response if I get a solution.

From a different phone, I called Verizon tech support (800-922-0204).  The first tech transferred me to a tech support manager at Samsung who works with Verizon (Jeremy), who has the same phone – Samsung Galaxy S5.  He walked me through several steps, which included unregistering the fingerprint, deleting credentials, among other steps.  And then all the options became available on the “Lock Screen” – “Screen Lock” screen.  Back in business.  Happiness reigns.  (Promise to quit playing around in areas where I should not go.)

Oh, no, no, no. Gotta keep playing – that’s how you learn!

Thanks for the follow up. Glad you got it working.
