How do you know if something is genuine or spam?
I get all kinds of notifications & popups about potential threats, PC needs cleaning, etc.
Just got one, for example, and looks legit:
“Microsoft Security Essentials
Attention !
This app detected a potential threat on your PC.
Click Clean PC to remove this threat.
Show Details / Clean Computer”
It’s orange & white – most MS stuff is Blue & White – I think!
I can send you a pic of it if you like.
Is there a litmus test for this stuff – after FB & msm – I’m paranoid about everything I didn’t send myself!!?;)
Thx!

Thanks!
Bon Chance!!

Great question Jim!
As you know, a lot of this just comes from experience, BUT if the message comes from the lower right of your screen that means it’s from something in you System Tray – if it is a software you know you installed then I’d pay attention to it.
If it pops up in the middle of the screen – it’s very likely bogus.
