welcome Roy to Geeks on Tour you have as many choices in lap tops as you do motor homes LOL!

I run a nice Dell 1500 series and the Mrs has a Dell 1700 series usage means a lot she likes gaming and I

spend time on social networking. I do spen the extra on drop damage warrantee fo lap tops.

I recommend a good size hard drive, do not skimp on the memory it will slow you down on these new programs.

Make sure you have built  in WIFI and I always go with 9 cell batteries for longer off the grid use.

I try and use free hot spots at campgrounds  when i can.

I am sure Jim will chime in with some recommendations also.

Happy RVing

Here is an article Jim wrote a while ago about buying a new computer: http://geeksontour.wordpress.c…..-computer/  he updated it once, and it still has good advice.

I’m wondering if a tablet might meet your needs?  If you’re a two finger ‘hen-pecker’ you may not miss the keyboard, and if you just want something to send email and browse the web – a table may be all you need.  An iPad or some Android tablet?

Thanks Bob & Mrs. G for the reply. Here’s what I would like to do, I would like to start a blog the day I my travels and keep up on my e-mails and now the forum. Like I said I’m a newborn to computers, turn on (yes) turn off (yes) playing a few games(yes).

When it comes to memory, hard drive or gigabytes honestly I’m lost. I watch youtube and shows from History channel on here but

I don’t if I’m using up space?  See what I mean as a newborn<img class="spSmiley" title="Surprised" onclick="spjEdInsertSmiley(‘sf-surprised.gif’, ‘Surprised’, ‘https://geeksontour.com/wp-content/forum-smileys/’, ‘Surprised‘);” src=”/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-surprised.gif” alt=”Surprised” /><img class="spSmiley" title="Yell" onclick="spjEdInsertSmiley(‘sf-yell.gif’, ‘Yell’, ‘https://geeksontour.com/wp-content/forum-smileys/’, ‘Yell‘);” src=”/wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-yell.gif” alt=”Yell” />

The built in WIFI alows you to connect to the WWW from many free “Hot Spots” @ campgrounds, even fast food places now offer WIFI. The Internet cards give you a paid connection to the WWW throught your internet service provider Verison, AT&T, Sprint.

Chris and Jim have a great collection of Show-Me-How videos I strongly recommend go to the learning Library and click on All the Show me how videos the series BASC01 through BASC35 are great for learning your computer of any type. Even working in the computer industry I referance the BASC video often as a refresher.

When I was given my brain a few (Cool) years ago it was built with only 64 K of memory  so good refresning helps.

As you can see “Geeks On Tour ” is also “Great Overall Training”

Roy,

I understand your excitement.  I think you can do better.

I don’t know how much you need a new computer, but the longer you can wait, the better deal you can get.

I have never dealt with Fingerhut before, so don’t know what kind of service after the sale you can expect.  When I went to their website tonight, the computer you mentioned was out of stock.  Delivery was expected to be Nov. 19.

$699 price seems a bit high for only 4G RAM and what I consider a small hard drive 320 GB.  I personally will not buy a computer without an Intel processor.  I realize they are bundling an All-in-One printer, but printers can be purchased almost anywhere for around $100, or you could keep your present one.

I did some price comparisons at Best Buy and found similar systems around that price with larger hard drives and more memory.

We’re glad you are asking these questions.

Thanks for the reply Mr. G. I thought it was a little to high, but didn’t know the $ of  all in one printer. You said check out Best Buy, now

what I am looking for is a lap top so I can start a blog when I start traveling like Chuck does on RV Traveler. And learn how to put videos on there too, and surf the web. Right now I’m watching the history channel on my PC. Going back to Best Buy I understand they have a geek yearly program, for x amount of $ for people how need help, you can go to a store and set things up for you.  Now do I go to Best Buy and say more memory/ hard drive for x amount of $ or just give them the facts on what I was looking at, because I printed out the one from Fingerhut? Too many thoughts right, better go have something chocolate should help.  Roy

1tb = 1 Terrabyte

a Terrabyte is 1,000X larger than a GB

Most of us don’t need a Terrabyte – but if the price is reasonable, why not?
