I have used Movie Maker in the past with success, however I now have a new hard drive, so I loaded Movie Maker 2012.  I edited my movie and published it on You Tube.  I got audio, but no video.  I then tried publishing with Vimeo and got the same results, audio and no video.  I published my video on You Tube from Picasa and got video and audio.  (Unfortunately with Picasa, video editing is limited.)  Therefore I feel there is something wrong using Movie Maker.  What can I try now?

In the past, I have used Live Movie maker to edit my music.  I can’t seem to get it to download on my Windows 7.  I had it on my old hard drive which was crashing.

Is there a better program to use for video and music editing?  I do freestyle with my dogs and I really need something that will work and is simple to use.

Thanks,

Frustrated Jeanette

PS  Being new at this, I hope I did this right!

Hi Jeanette,

I’m glad to see you using Moviemaker – videos can be such fun.  It is Moviemaker that we use and teach.

I am assuming you can play the project within the MovieMaker software and you see the video. When you say you “Published to YouTube” I am assuming you used the MovieMaker File menu and chose Publish movie. Try instead using File->Save Movie with the Settings recommended for this project.  This will create a .mp4 file on your computer. Check to see if that has video and sound?

If it’s ok then go to your youtube channel, find the Upload video command and upload the .mp4 file.

If the .mp4 is still bad, then you probably need some Moviemaker codec updates. Here’s an article I found about that:

If this doesn’t help, please let us know the make and model of your computer, as well as the operating system – Windows 7?
