oh dear chris, I forgot this question
I have uploaded some photos some time ago. I would have opened the folders to do so. But before I have been using google photos
I had a very messy photo situationĀ eg some saved or the same saved in various places. I know that I have a lot of those messy ones tucked away safely in various albums now.
My question is to make sure I have them all could I upload a couple of folders(opening them first) hoping that Google will not store them if I have already done so.

I think I understand – you’ve uploaded photos but you’re not sure if you got them all. You want to upload a whole folder-full again in hopes that Google Photos will only upload the ones that were missed.
Yes, that is how it works ..
BUT – if you have done anything to the photos, either the cloud copy or the local copy, since the first upload – then they will be viewed as different photos and will be uploaded again.
