As a grandparent who occasionally babysits or entertains the grand-kids, I am encouraged by my daughter to send her videos of anything of interest so she can share on FB or IG. My daughter & her husband are iPhone users & I am Android. It seems my contributions are not compatible w/ FB or IG formats, picture size, file size, or something. I use the Share feature of GP but they answer they cannot use the product while grumbling about Android or PopPop’s difficulty w/ 21st century tech. I suspect they were getting a link to a large file & were unable or too impatient (parents have enough difficulty wrestling w/ youngsters w/o wrestling w/ indecipherable file problems) to compress it or reformat it. I tried a workaround by downloading the file to my desktop computer, but it did not arrive (would Handbrake help if the file arrives?). A check of forum threads seemed to suggest either a problem w/ GP downloading videos, or it taking many days (I’m still waiting after a couple of weeks). So: (1) does GP have a video download problem; (2) do you have a recommendation re Android video compression software; & (3) can you offer recommendation re appropriate compression software settings for FB & IG? Thanks.
I’m sure your daughter would love to see your videos of the grandkids – so let’s figure this out!
I notice in your other post that you mention videos 1.3 GB in size. I think the best thing you can do is to trim the videos down to shorter pieces – under 60 seconds. You can do that right in Google Photos by opening the video on the phone and tapping the edit button. You will now see little white bars at the beginning and end – you can drag them in to start the video later or end earlier, thus making a shorter video. When you save, it saves a copy so you can grab multiple pieces.
You know – what would really be cool is if you would use Google Photos to make a little movie with multiple video clips and a few photos too. Your daughter would be impressed. 🙂
Watch episode 150 starting at this point.
And, also watch this video 567.GP-Vacation Movie with Google Photos
As for your specific questions:
(1) does GP have a video download problem;
any large file can be a problem but GP does not specifically have any problem downloading. Just to be sure … are you opening the video on GP then clicking the 3-dot menu in upper right, then Download?
(2) do you have a recommendation re Android video compression software; &
the best place for sharing videos is Youtube. It handles all compression and issues with different viewers. You can go directly from GP to YouTube. Here’s a video to watch 568.GP-Upload Video to YouTube
Note: you can make the YouTube video unlisted, so only the people you share the link with can see it.
(3) can you offer recommendation re appropriate compression software settings for FB & IG? Thanks.
I think length of video is more important than compression. Handbrake is good, but it shouldn’t be necessary with videos taken with your phone – and maybe hosted on YouTube.
