Having a problem doing this. While in Picasa
I clicked on “import” to get the photos from a scanner
Filled in import from with my Cannon MG3500 series printer.
Put import to “My pictures” and gave to-days date as the folder title.
I put Photo (color) in the select source space and did a preview which was fine.
I selected Image display as the destination. I then did “perform scan” and then as it completes picasa goes non responsive.
I finally cancel picasa and get “invalid image” and image 0 in my picture library and no scanned picture.
What am I doing wrong? Is there something in the settings I should have adjusted?
Will appreciate your help with this.
Thank you very much.
I don’t know what is wrong, maybe you need a new driver for the scanner?
You should try using the scanner directions without Picasa. Just scan the pictures and tell them to save in a folder within your My Pictures. Picasa doesn’t care how the pictures get there, if they are in a folder that Picasa watches, you will see them when you open Picasa.
Here is an article I wrote a while ago on using scanners with Picasa:

But, my favorite way of getting old pictures into my computer is to use a digital camera and take a picture of a picture. Here’s an article on that: Scanning and Organizing Old Photos

I am able to scan using My Image Garden on my Cannon printer. This probably indicates the scanner driver is OK.
I click on scan in the left column.
I click on Photo on the top where the choices are Auto Photo Document Custom Stitch Driver and Settings.
It scans and shows a thumbnail of the scan. At that time I can rotate or crop it if desired.
I then can either delete or save it.
It then appears in my pictures library and I am able to use the scan.
I was hoping to use Picasa to scan, but I must have something wrong in the settings. It comes up with a blank picture in the pictures library even though the Preview of the scan is perfect.
Will appreciate suggestions to get the scan from preview to the pictures library.
Thank you very much.
When you scan using Picasa – Picasa is just starting the process and handing it off to your scanner software. If you have it working by using the scanner software directly, I see no advantage of starting with Picasa.
You say that after scanning you can delete or save it. and then you are able to use the scan. Are you saying that the scan does not show up when you open Picasa? It should … if 1) the scan is saved in a folder that is being watched by Picasa (see Tools->Folder Manager) and 2) the scan is in a format that Picasa understands (see Tools->Options->File Types)
