Highlight a picture (blue border), F2, type new name and select “Rename”.  Get the circular donut for a couple of seconds. The name doesn't change.  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bill Osborne

What are you trying to name it?  Some characters are not allowed … like question marks, or slashes

Hi Chris,

Waugh H-D and Deal's Gap.  I also tried Bill just to keep it simple.

I'm getting the circular donut for a couple of seconds while it's trying. It that normal?

WHAT!   I just opened Picasa and tried to rename a file again and IT WORKED.  It hadn't worked all day.

Is this Geeks On Tour voodoo in the clouds?? You read my post and “Voila”.

Or did Picasa just need a break?

I love this forumLaugh

Voodoo in the clouds. I love it!
I’m rarely sure why computers do what they do. My first response when the computer isn’t acting the way I expect, is to restart and try it again without anything else running.

Unable to rename files again.  Shutdown computer, downloaded Picasa again…no help.

I think I need the “voodoo in the clouds again”!

Any possibility you have that same picture file open in another program?

The 'circular donut' spinning while it works and tries to rename is normal.

Can you rename the picture without Picasa?  Just using Windows Explorer?

And, lastly, do you really need to rename the picture … I have stopped renaming mine.  But, I always write a caption – I have found that is all I need.

Could it be a permissions issue?  Maybe the folder containing the pictures is set to Read Only?  It's not on a CD/DVD is it?

Chris,

You guided me in the right direction.  Those files I was unable to rename are in My Pictures on an old hard drive I have in a Hard Drive Enclosure.  I can rename those files in Windows Explorer.  And when I do, they're renamed in Picasa.

You know, I wondered why I wanted to rename the files AND ALSO write a caption.  I'm now going to just write captions.  Thank you for that advice!

Thanks as always………..
