Picasa, Windows 10, and Google Photos

Is anyone else having problems with Picasa and Windows 10? I have a new computer. After migrating my photos, I have a mess in Picasa. (Everything was great in Windows 7.) For example, it put each photo in a separate folder. I haven’t reached the point where I feel comfortable using Google Photos exclusively.

A second question….If you accidently upload pictures to Google Photos that have already been uploaded, do you end up with duplicates or does the program recognize that they are duplicates?

Thank you for your help!

I’m wondering how you “migrated your photos” ??

It sounds like you may have used Import – that is the only way Picasa would create folders for each date of a picture. Import should only be used to get pictures from a camera to the computer. For transferring from an old computer, all you need to do is copy the complete My Pictures folder structure from your old computer to the new one. Then, when you install Picasa on the new computer, it will see the pictures in those folders.

Have you watched this video? Folder Manager #233

As for duplicates, the answer is “maybe” … Google Photos does recognize when the exact same photo is being uploaded and it doesn’t do it. BUT, if there is anything that could possibly identify it as a different photo – it will indeed create a duplicate. I do have many duplicates in my Google Photo library, for a variety of reasons.

Thank you for your prompt reply and for getting me on the right path, Chris. I’m not sure how my husband moved the files, but I deleted them and started over again following your instructions and everything is ok now. I’m so happy! I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to use Picasa on my new computer. What a tremendous resource you are!
