Up to March of 2018 pictures I took on my cell phone and pictures I scanned and pictures I copied all went into “my Pictures”.
Now only pictures I scan and pictures I copy are in my pictures. The pictures I take on my cell phone do not go there. Can’t figure out what happened.
Back up and sync from Google is in my computer and keeps updating regularly.
Would love to get it back to the way it was when the photos taken with the cell phone also go into “my pictures”.
Will appreciate your help.
Thank you very much.
You say that before March 2018 pictures you took on your phone went to your computer in the Pictures folder. How did you do that? Did you connect the phone to the computer via USB cable? Or did you use a cloud service like Dropbox or Drive?
Do the pictures from your phone show up on your computer somewhere other than the Pictures folder? or not at all?
My first thought is that you were referring to the change between Google Photos and Google Drive. It was possible to have Google Drive set up in such a way that photos you took with your phone got copied to your computer and that has ended but it worked fine until July 2019 – so I don’t thing that is your issue. (Here’s and article about that: https://geeksontour.com/2019/0…..le-photos/)
In any case, the best way now to get photos from phone to computer with Windows 10 is to use OneDrive. Here are a couple of videos to watch:
Does that help? or have I missed something?

I don’t know exactly how I had the pix going into my pictures by themselves. It happened when I started using Google Photos and all pictures taken with the iphone went to both until March 2018. I have pictures in my computers and cell phone dating back to 2003. There are 153,769 photos in my Google Dashboard right now.
Before I started using the iphone and google photos I used to load the pictures into the computer using the disk from the camera, but have not used that for years.
I have tried copying from the iphone DCIM to the computer using a cable. It estimates over six hours but always aborts and some of the pictures get into the compute, but nowhere near all. I am planning on trying uploading pictures from the present to February of 2018 to the computer using a cable. This might not overwhelm the operation as the 153,769 photos did. If that works I could then do one month at a time.
Before I try the suggested method using One Drive I should mention that I do not have Windows 10. I have Windows 7
Thank you very much.
I doubt that Windows 7 works the same, I don’t have a windows 7 machine to test with – so can’t help you there.
As for copying from the phone with a cable. Could you try copying groups at a time? just since March 2018, for example? I don’t doubt that it chokes on 100,000+ photos!
I notice that you mention your phone is an iPhone. I wonder if you had iCloud on your computer before March 2018? – That would have copied iPhone photos to your Windows computer. It would most likely be in an iCloud folder under your Pictures folder? If you think that’s it, you could reinstall it by going to http://www.icloud.com and logging in with your Apple ID. Check out the Photos icon to see if your photos are there. Then, you should see a link at the top to download and install the iCloud software on your PC.
What I do is download photos from Google Photos to my computer. I recommend one month at a time, and you’d only need to do the months since March 2018. Here’s a video – be sure to watch to the end.
