I have a document that I would like to upload to a genealogical site (Ancestry) but it only accepts photos. I can’t seem to convert it to a photo by uploading the document to google photos. Do you know how I can get it to Google photos as a photo? Do you know if there another program that will convert it first so I can upload it?
Hello June,
Adobe has a nice pdf to jpg conversion utility. It’s free but you need to set up an account with Adobe – a user name and password. Then you upload your .pdf and it converts it to a .jpg you can download. If the .pdf is more than one page, you’ll get 2 .jpg files combined in a .zip file.
If the .pdf is one page or less, you could also just take a screenshot of it. On windows you would use the Snipping tool. For details on how to take screenshots see our Button Show Episode 232: How to take a screenshot on any device.
Hope that helps.

I don’t think the PDF to JPEG op[tion in Adobe is free anymore. No matter how I try to get there (your link, google link, etc) it asks me to subscribe when I click on Select a File. It does off er a free trial but you have to give a credit card to use start it. Is three any other way to do this? I still think it should be part of Photos.
Hi June,
I found a way convert pdf to jpg using Google Drive and Cloud Convert. You probably could use Cloud Convert by itself if you don’t use Google Drive. It is free for up to 25 conversions/day.
It was easier to make a video than to write out the details – Let me know if this helps: Video to answer PDF to JPG conversion question

Thanks for the video but I’m having trouble repeating the process. The files I want to convert have been downloaded tempoarily to my desktop. If I right click on one of them and then Open with, I don’t see Cloud Convert as an option nor do I see it when I click on Choose another app. Where is it hidding? Is it something I need to download?
You say you downloaded the files to your computer so that sounds like you are not using Google drive. My files were on Google drive.
If you don’t want your files on Google drive then you need to use cloud convert from their website at https://cloudconvert.com/pdf-converter
Then use the button to upload your file to them.

I think I’ve managed to get my computer very confused about where things are. My Files tab shows a Gooogle Drive which is labeled as my G drive. I took a screen shot of it but it isn’t pasting here.
When I tried to down load the file (2) pages to what the computer is calling Google Drive it opens a screen to save it but when I type in a file name for it it says it can’t find it which doesn’t make sense since I am trying to save a new file nor replace an old one.
I also tried the convert option you mentioned but it didn’t work because it is a zipped file and I’m not seeing an option to unzip and the conversion will not accept the zipped file as input. I do see 2 files in Files if I click on the name of the zipped file but they don’t appear to be individually accessible files
I think at this point I need to clean up the Google Drive situation before doing anything else. I unplugged my external drive and the computer seems to be seeing the files so it would appear the Google Drive is in the cloud although it is listed under This Computer. I do have things saved in doc.google.com which I presume is in the cloud but is it in Google Drive in the cloud or somewhere else?
Google Drive is primarily a cloud storage service reached at Drive.Google.com. It sounds like you have installed Drive for Desktop which syncs Drive cloud to Drive Desktop.
If you use the Cloud Convert and the .pdf is multiple pages, it will download the resulting .jpgs in a zip file. To unzip, you need to – Right-click on that file and Extract All. It will create a folder will all the individual .jpg files.
Chris–Thank you for the pdf conversion tip!! I’ve used cloud convert but didn’t really understand how it works. This is GREAT. Our Activities office sends me pdf documents and asks me to post them on my blog….but blogger won’t accept pdf and I’ve struggled in the past with the conversion. Now I’m a PRO thanks to you!!
