I have partner sharing enabled. When I look at a photo it says saved in high quality but the same photo in my wife’s photos says backed up in original quality. There does not seem to be any setting to change this. The reverse is also the same situation. Is there a photos setting so you don’t backup shared photos? Getting confused!
You aren’t the only one confused!! The devil is in the details.
See this official help article on partner sharing and notice, under “Save your partners photos” it says, “Any photos you save from partner sharing won’t take up storage, unless your partner stops sharing their photos with you, or deletes the original copy.”
Because of that, it really doesn’t matter what size the photos are shared with because they won’t count in the parnter’s account.
I actually never noticed this issue before, but you prompted me to look at my husbands photos shared to my account. He backed up his photos in Original quality, I get them from the partner sharing setting that automatically saves to my account. I double-checked that my settings (https://photos.google.com/settings) were set to High Quality, yet his photos saved to my account are in Original quality. My only explanation is that they don’t count toward storage in my account anyway – just in his.
clear as mud?
