Question via email:

We are at the point where we have two full external hard drives and a very full computer hard drive that is making our computer very slow and in turn making picasa very difficult to even use because it is always “not responding.”  I tried to follow your tutorial on how to delete duplicate files but I am afraid to delete my back ups and have something happen to them, then I am afraid to delete at all because I need to know I have that file in another place!  I just tried to follow your instructions on backing up to disk but it would require 129 DVD’s to back them up on disk.  I am so overwhelmed with this and am not super computer savvy so I feel like I need to pay someone who is very familiar with Picasa to come help me get out of this mess I am in.  I was wondering if you have people in different areas who can do a service call and help me to back up and organize my pictures.  Any help or advise you can give me would be SO GREATLY appreciated!!!

I can help, but I’m afraid it’s just me – we don’t have other people around who may be in your area. See our Store page for hourly private remote support.
You say that, ” I am afraid to delete my back ups and have something happen to them, then I am afraid to delete at all because I need to know I have that file in another place!
Don’t you say that you do already have backups on an External Hard Drive?  If so, then my recommendation would be to delete all the pictures from your computer, then just copy back the good ones from your hard drive. If you don’t already have a backup to hard drive, just use Windows Explorer to copy the entire \My Pictures folder structure to an external hard drive. Now you have all your pictures safe, and you can start copying just the ones you want back to the computer in \My Pictures – then start using Picasa.
My past articles on backing up to CD/DVD are a bit dated – external hard drive is a good choice now.
