I have a new PC.  On the old PC I have Picasa and many folders.  Can I put Picasa on the new machine and how do I get my folders?  I believe the pictures are on the new PC.  Chris – can you give my a call?  5121 750-9355

Picasa is no longer supported by Google, but we have a copy of the installation files on the Geeks on Tour website for members only. As long as it is Windows and not a Mac. Find the files here. As for the folders, you just copy them from the old machine to the new one. New PCs often come with instructions for transferring all files from the old computer to the new one, but you can always just copy the needed folders to a thumb drive then use the thumb drive to copy them onto the new computer.

If you still need a call, let me know.

I’ll need to see your screen – let’s do a zoom call. I’ve sent you an email.

Notes from zoom call: All your photos were safely in folders on your computer, the problem was that Picasa was set to just “Scan once” After you went to Tools, Folder manager, and changed all the folders to “Scan always” Then your photos showed up.

The fact that you see a link in the top right to “sign in to Google” is something that doesn’t work anymore. Picasa still exists and works on Windows computers, but it has no connection to the web AT ALL.

You say you used Picasa to add text to your photos – but getting the photos from Google Photos to Picasa, then back to Google photos is a lot of steps, especially since your photos are in .heic format that Picasa cannot read. So – I recommend using the free app called Snapseed on your iPhone to add text. Here’s a video on that: 598.GP-Snapseed Text Tool
