Q: Can you send me the link or steer me in the direction to learn how to edit collages. I’ve made a collage with one photo and put a caption at the bottom but want to be able to save that and add a different photo each time. I’m taking photos at a function of Junior Farmers so woud like the heading at the bottom. I can see where I can add more text once the collage is completed, but can’t edit the actual photo.
Any help you can give would be appreciated.

A: On the Learning Library page for Picasa, pics73 is our short course on Collages.  I recommend watching all 8 videos in that short course and printing out the last document for reference.  The features that are available when you’re editing a collage are all the same features that are available when you’re creating the collage in the first place.  So … the only additional thing you need to know in order to edit a collage is where the ‘Edit’ command is located.  If you’re looking at a collage, you should see a button with the words Edit Collage at the top left – right next to the Back to Library button.  If you don’t see it, that means that you’ve lost the companion .cxf file – this can happen if you move a collage .jpg file when you’re not in Picasa.  This is shown in the Where are Collages Stored video.

If what you’re asking about is how to remove pictures from a collage and add others, that is covered in the 5th video – even though it’s generally about People collages, editing the pictures is just the same as with any other type of collage.

I hope this helps.  If you need more, please reply to this post.

Hi Chris

Thanks for your reply. I can now edit Collage but having problems so will explain what I need to do. I have a collage made with a photo in the middle that I want to keep as a template. I then want to be able to take out the middle photo and replace with another. When I remove a photo, it automatically rearranges the collage with the no. of pictures left.

I was originally trying to keep the text on the template also but found that each time I edited the collage, the text was gone, so I got around this by putting the text on an actual photo. This will also create more work as I’ll have to create the photo each time. Could you tell me if there’s an easy way to do this. ( see attached )

Thanks

Judy

Ok, that photo in the middle … when you delete that, yes the other pictures will rearrange to fit.  But now, if you add another picture (of the same approximate dimensions) you should be able to move it into the middle position.

As for the text, it disappears when you’re in Collage editing mode, but it should reappear after you re-create the collage.  It is a bit weird, but it should work.
