Chris, I watched your presentation on Steve Dotto’s Webinar. Here are a few questions I still have.

  1. When transferring a photo to an album or transferring photos from an album to another album, is there a shortcut method of selecting the album to receive the transfer rather than scrolling through the more than 100 album titles in my album catalog?
  2. Is there an efficient method of transferring a photo from one album to three different albums rather than scrolling through the more than 100 album titles in my album menu three different times to find the three desired recipient albums?
  3. The page showing all of the albums, also shows the # of items in each album. When I click on the album, the # of items info is not displayed, which would be very useful info. Can this limitation be overcome?
  4. Can a menu of the album titles and # of items in each album be printed out?
  5. This is a follow up on an online conversation I had with Chris (Mrs. Geek) a few months ago. First, the Good News is that Shutterfly once again allows the import of photos from Google Photos (that capability was interrupted for a period of time). I am preparing a Shutterfly book to celebrate my 80th birthday and some of the photos I want to use are on Picasa. I need to import them into Shutterfly as well as the photos that are being imported from Google Photos, which is now no problem. Any suggestions on the most efficient method of exporting Picasa photos to my hard drive so they can be imported into Shutterfly or into Google Photos, then downloaded to Shutterfly ? I am open to hearing alternative strategies of moving photos from Picasa to Shutterfly.

Thanks, in advance, for your input on the above questions.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the detailed, numbered questions, I’ll respond in green below your questions. Here goes …

  1. When transferring a photo to an album or transferring photos from an album to another album, is there a shortcut method of selecting the album to receive the transfer rather than scrolling through the more than 100 album titles in my album catalog?
No. and, that has been my #1 peeve with Google Photos. There is one little trick I use when it gets too painful – since an album is in the list by date, I find the receiving album using search and just stick a current photo in it – that puts it at the top of the list. Then I try to remember to remove the photo. Also, if you’re adding several photos, at different times, to the same album, you should see the album show up at the top of the list in a new section called Recent.
  2. Is there an efficient method of transferring a photo from one album to three different albums rather than scrolling through the more than 100 album titles in my album menu three different times to find the three desired recipient albums?
Also no. At least not that I’ve seen.
  3. The page showing all of the albums, also shows the # of items in each album. When I click on the album, the # of items info is not displayed, which would be very useful info. Can this limitation be overcome?
    Again – no.
  4. Can a menu of the album titles and # of items in each album be printed out?
Nopeonly lists that you make yourself. Did you watch video 469. GP-Make a link list of photo albums
Your photos aren’t actually “IN” Picasa. Picasa is viewing the photos on your hard drive. If you’ve made editing changes to them, just use Picasa’s File Save first, then you can right-click on the photo while you’re inside the Picasa program and you should see a Locate on Disk option. That takes you out to Windows file manager and you’ll see the photos outside of Picasa. So, let’s say you discover they are in the C:\MyPictures\80birthday folder. That’s where you tell Shutterfly to find them. Videos to watch: 140.PI-Save Edits Or, if your photos are all over the place, you might want to export them to a folder you make just for Shutterfly – export saves any edits in the process. See 066.PI-Exporting Pictures for Use in Another Program

Let me know if this helps

Chris,

I am grateful for your knowledgeable answers. Google Photos definitely has some weaknesses. The three videos were very helpful. They helped clarify the differences between photos edited in Picasa and the originals on the computer hard drive, and where to access either. I feel much more confident of being able to efficiently organize and implement my Shutterfly project using photos from the Google Photos cloud and from my hard drive. You have helped remove much of the mystery I was confronted with, when starting this project.
