I thought I had cleaned up Google Drive last week…  My email is kept there, so I was unable to email. Everything I checked told me I had removed the photos.  Today, still unable to email, I checked GD. I found over 200 photos that weren’t on the drive last week. all seemingly from Google Photos; and  all ranging in size from  5-12 MP. My computer still says 17 GB in Google Drive (of 15)  So what’s going on?  why all these pics, already in Google Photos, flooding my drive?  Google Photos works  (or Not) in mysterious ways.  You can’t email me back.  It is not allowing either receiving or sending.

Could the new Google Photos in your drive be coming from your computer? The Backup and Sync utility uploads to Drive and Photos at the same time.

Are you using High Quality for your google photos? If so, they shouldn’t be taking up any space in your Google allotment. To be sure, you can use the Recover Space function:

  1. on a computer, go to photos.google.com
  2. click the 3-line menu (upper left) and then Settings
  3. Click Recover Storage

Here’s a video.

Let me know if this helps

I’m sorry for not being clear. I guess I’m asking why I wasn’t informed about GP removing my Picasa files to Google Photos without informing me.  There were more than a few folders moved to Google Photos. And I, in a  minor panic about half my picture collection gone. I can’t understand why GP did this.  Did this happen to others? The folders are now (un)safely in Google Photos.  I say unsafely because I came across a folder in GP that seemed to be missing pictures.  Checking the original on Microsoft Photos, I found 13 photo  files.  There were 9 files on GP.  So where are the missing files?  I hesitate to check further, as I don’t need to be angrier than I already am with GP, actually with Google Drive.

“GP removing my Picasa files to Google Photos”

I’m not sure what you’re referring to here because Google Photos does not remove any files from anywhere. It is a place where you upload files to. You also mention Google Drive – which is a whole other story. I need to see your screen to understand.  I’m happy to do a remote screen-sharing session if you want. I will email you.

oops, you said you can’t receive emails right now. Let’s see – how about you message me – using the Contact us page. If you give me your phone number and a good time, I’ll call.
