Hi Chris and Jim,
I have read your messages under the heading Photos for the past few years and learned from you that Picasa 3 can no longer be uploaded to Google Photos. FYI: I decided to test the system on (4/10/19), and I tried uploading a few photos from Picasa 3. I filled in the blanks with my gmail address and password, I received an error message “Failed to access account information” after I clicked on Google+ (either at the bottom of the page or in the upper right hand corner). However, I did receive a gmail message that “Picasa was granted access to your Google account. Do you recognize this activity?” I clicked YES. Then I received another gmail that “You’re all set! You just confirmed it was you.” However, the transfer of a photo from Picasa to Google Photos did not occur. Why is Google leading me down a dead end, non-productive activity?
Well … the problem is that they originally created the link between Picasa and your Google account as a 2-part process:
- Do you have a Google Account?
- Are you using an app that is allowed to access your Google Account?
So you passed step one, but failed step two. It wasn’t designed to “lead you down a path.” It’s just that, in the process of retiring Picasa, they forgot to close the door to step 1. This is not something I would expect to ever get ‘fixed’ because Picasa just isn’t on any Google todo list anymore. I still use Picasa for doing things no other program does – like great Collages, or Face Movies – but I know that it has no connectivity, it will only work with photos on my computer.
