I was an avid Picasa user with thousands of pictures in my PC (and on external hard drives from previous computers). I have gone through the process to put all the pictures from my iphone into Google Photos. The duplicate issue is that previously I have uploaded my pictures from my iphone into Picasa and therefore into my PC. Now I want to move the pictures from my computer into GooglePhotos. Will the previous uploads of iphone pictures into my PC show up as duplicates in Google Photos?
Google Photos will not upload EXACT duplicates.
- Imported iPhone photos to computer (Picasa)
- Uploaded the same photos from iPhone to Google Photos
- Now you upload all photos from computer to Google Photos
- Any photos that were in both step 1 and step 2 are “duplicates” and will not be uploaded again UNLESS you have edited or resized them. Then, yes, they will be uploaded and you will see duplicates. But if you examine them you find a difference in size or an edit.
Try one or two folders to start with and see how many duplicates you end up with. Hopefully it will be a number you can live with. Note: when using Backup and Sync, it will appear that it is uploading all photos – even exact duplicates – but it is just going thru the motions. When if finds an exact duplicate it aborts that copy.
Hope that helps
