I am considering getting a Chromebook computer and wonder if Picasa can be used in it?

I was surprised that Picasa cannot be used on the i-pad, although I can access Picasa Web Albums.  I have not gotten into Google+

Is there Picasa in the cloud?

No, Picasa will not run on your Chromebook.  The Chromebook is not a Windows computer – there is no hard drive storage for programs, there is no Windows operating system.  It’s more like a tablet than a computer.  It’s a Google Internet appliance.

So far, the Picasa photo software does not have a version for mobile devices.  It only works on Windows and Macintosh computers.  Picasa Web Albums is a completely different animal.  It is a photo-sharing website.  Unfortunately, a lot of mobile apps used for uploading pictures to Picasa Web Albums, cut text corners and just refer to it as Picasa – very confusing for folks.

… as for Picasa in the cloud.

No, there is no Picasa in the Cloud … not exactly anyway.  I do believe that is the direction that Google is going with their Google+ photos, however.  Once you have uploaded a picture to Google+ (same as Picasa Web Albums), you have all the same editing tools available to you as in Picasa.  This is actually the same place that you get to if you click  “Edit in Creative Kit” from Picasa’s tools.
