A friend askewd me to send her some pictures I had but when I looked in google photos I could only find one of them so I looked through my camera roll and all of them were there fortunately. So it seems that fot some period ay least photos on my camera were not getting uploaded. So 2 questions: 1) how might that have happened, 2) how can I get the missing ones uploaded now without a lot of duplicates being created?
Have you tried looking in the “Photos on Device” section?
If you don’t know what I mean …
- Open the Google Photos app on your phone
- tap the library tab at the bottom
- right below the buttons, you see a header “Photos on device” Tap Show All
- If you see the missing photos here, tap them and Turn On backup – note the name of the folder/tile where you found them
- You should now see those photos in your Google Photos library – the Photos tab
Also check the trash – if you see them there, you can select then restore.
If you don’t find them – but they do show up in Samsung Gallery, you can select them there and Share to Google Photos. That will put them back in Google Photos.
Let me know how it goes.

When I tap on Library and then View All what I get are 3 choices: Camera, Documents, and Download. When I click on Camera I see the same pictures I see if I just open the camera app but only back to Mar 30 and the missing pictures are mostly from last October. All of the pictures back to Mar 30 have already been uploaded Backup is turned on already and new pictures appear to be uploading daily. So how do I add the ones from last year that didn’t upload back then, again without creating a lot of duplicates?
You still see them when you use Samsung Gallery right?
To put them back on Google photos,
- find them on Gallery and select them. Selecting on Gallery works just like on Google – touch and hold on the first one, then drag down and every photo your finger touches will be selected. You may want to do this in chunks – notice the number of selected at the top of the screen. Definitely start with a small chunk so you can test and see if it is doing what you want.
- Tap the share button
- Tap on the 3-dot “More”
- Tap on the Google Photos icon
That should do it.
