I use an iphone so I have an icloud account.  I cloud does not do facial recognition so I need to bring my 6000 photos from my icloud account down onto my computer so they can be scooped up by google photos and I will be able to create an album of my grandson from the facial recognition analysis of google photos.  As a pratical matter how would I go about this and how long, once I had the photos downloaded to my computer would it take google photos to upload those photos?  I am wondering if I can also do the same process with my wifes compute and icloud account to get her files into my computer and then on to google photos and into my new album of photos of “Sam” my grandson.  I assume that all of these photos when put into google photos would be in cronological order?

Do you see any problems with my plan and can you recommend an efficient way to get the icloud photos downloaded and into my computer?

I do think that Google Photos does a better job, but iCloud/Apple Photos does do face identification. On your iPhone, if you open Apple Photos – the multi-colored flower icon – you can click on the Albums button at the bottom, and one of the ‘albums’ is called “People and Places”

If you still want to switch over to Google Photos, all you really need to do is install Google Photos on your iPhone and turn it on. Google Photos will upload all the photos on your phone to Google Photos. If you use iCloud, then ALL your iCloud photos are on your phone, so they will all be uploaded to Google Photos.

If you go to on your computer and sign in to your Google PHotos account, you can click the Upload button in the upper right and choose “Transfer from photo collections” – one of the options there is iCloud.

bottom line – there are much easier ways to transfer all your iCloud photos to Google than downloading to your computer.

Hope that helps.
