Chris….after thinking I lost my older pictures, I decided to do some more backups. I have backed up before….the first time, when I had to back up all my photos and now haven't done it again for a year or so. When I tried to backup, there was nothing to tell me which folders were backed up and which weren't. How do I know which ones are in need of backup? I checked the learning video but still couldn't figure it out..
It all depends on what 'Backup Set' you're using.
If you have one backup set, called Complete Backup (or you've only used the 'My Backup Set' that Picasa starts with) and you backed up last year using that set, then using that set this year will only display the folders that need backing up.
I store all my pictures by month – then I make a new backup set for each month and just select that month's folder. When you create a new Backup Set, you're starting fresh – it doesn't have any record of what folders may have already been backed up using another set. So, the key to backing up only those files that haven't been backed up before is to use the same Backup Set as before.
