Hi – new to Photos and have some great new vacation photos to organize.  I need help:

  • if I select the “Best of NYC” images to create an Album, do I have to Edit each before assigning it to the Album, or can I do it when the album is complete?
  • If I use an image in one Album, is it available for another, if I have only one copy?  Should I make a copy of each photo I’m selecting prior to placing it in my Album?  (I tend to do this anyway prior to editing)

Thanks for what I know will be a very helpful response!

Hey Bob – we just visited NYC as well – hope you had as much fun as we did!

As for creating an album – with one caveat, I don’t think there is any correct workflow for editing photos and making albums. Sometimes I’m looking at a photo and I want to make it look better, so I edit it right away and later I decide it should go in an album. Other times, I’m selecting photos for an album and as I view the album, I’ll see some editing that needs doing.

Either way works but here is the caveat – the one exception: IF you’re using your phone and IF the album is shared you will find that the edit button is missing. I’m not sure why that is, but I’ve run into it a few times. BUT, if I open that same album on my computer, it lets me edit it in place no problem. ??? Let me know if you experience the same thing.

As for putting photos in more than one album – YES! That is a defining characteristic of albums over folders (Google Photos does NOT have folders) all of your photos are stored in the Library, they are just marked for showing up in an album. You can add one photo to as many albums as you like. Just realize that, if you ever delete that photo from your library – it’s gone – it can no longer show up  in any album.

Hope that helps
