Hi, I’m working on my google photos so that I can show them on my HUB.  Today I opened the website on my browser and my albums that I created aren’t showing up.  My Phone, so far has the albums listed that I created.  Is there a setting in Google photos to change, or has Google made some changes?

Thanks, LuVerne

I’m not sure what’s happening LuVerne, all I can suggest is normal troubleshooting:

  1. How is the internet connection on your phone?
  2. Try force-quitting Google Photos and re-starting phone.
  3. Is Google Photos app up to date?
  4. Same on computer, refresh Google Photos, maybe even reboot computer

Let me know

Chris, thanks for the quick response.  I am on wifi at home with high speed.  I have closed the photos app and restarted the phone,  All of my apps on the phone are up to date.

I really like to have the albums available as they indicate our trips and can be share.  Hopefully I can figure this out.

Thais atarted because I was watching the hub play and several of the pictures flickered.  I realized those pictures probably had two or more frames.  I had found some of them and corrected, but I still have at least three that I haven’t located.

Chris,

I just realized that I got a message while working with Google Photos that I needed to install Backup and sync on my computer.  I’m wondering if this was necessary and if I should uninstall it.

I don’t think your computer has anything to do with it. In fact, unless you have photos that are only on your computer and you want them in Google Photos – you may want to uninstall Backup and Sync altogether. It’s purpose is to upload photos in bulk from your computer. If you just have occasional photos on your computer that you want in Google Photos – you can do that manually.

I clicked the link to your album and got the message that the album was empty. Seems like this might be a clue, but I don’t know the answer.

Are any albums working? Can you make a test album and give me the link?

I’ll keep working on it.  I see that I also lost the names for facial recognition are gone and I am having to reorganize and having some issues.  I”ll see if I can get some new albums put together.

I’m hoping this is just a a temporary problem with Google Photos. Weird things to happen and clear themselves up from time to time.

I would probably uninstall and reinstall the app on the phone.

I’ve done that.  It’s funny, but the albums on my phone and on the browser are not the same.  I’m recreating them on the browser, but those changes do not appear on my phone, which is where I’m using the hub to choose my pictures to view.  I had also lost all of my people recognition,  I’m in the process of reestabishing those as well.  It’s like I have a spirit in my google world.

Might it be that you have albums sorted differently on your phone? There is no way to sort on the computer – the topmost album will be the one with the most recent photos in it. But on the Android phone, At top of album list, you’ll see a new button ↑↓ Most recent photo – tap that to see other choices: Last modified, Album title.

As for the people, I don’t know … have you checked the setting? Just be sure it didn’t get turned off?

I went back and checked the setting, I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app.  I’m just going to deal with it as well as I can for now.  I’m trying to edit the photos to straighten and make the colors better.  I particularly want to share pictures with our granddaughter, who may be the best one to continue the genealogy of our family.  Thanks for all of you suggestions and input.

Hey Luverne,

I’d really like to see your screen – this just isn’t right. Can we jump on a zoom call?

If you’re interested, use the Contact us menu here and send me a message with your phone number and a good time. I’ll call you and we can set up a zoom call from there.

I don’t know if I told you, but I fell and broke two ribs and am recovering.  Gary is also having some balance problems again and we’re waiting for a referral to a neurosurgeon.  His shunt for his hydrocephalus may need adjusting.  Thanks for your offer, I’ll get back with you when we’re a bit more settled.  It’s been a tough month, but this too will pass.

As to the original post, a couple of days ago my albums reappeared on the Chrome browser.  They never were missing on the phone.  I’m working on naming all of our family pictures and assigning dates in the information area of the photo.  So many of them were scanned in when we first started fulltiming and of course never dated and not always with good family information.  Our granddaughter wants to have them so when she has time later on, she can relate them to our genealogy.  She’s raising two boys and is a research engineer at Chevron, also travels a bit.

Ouch!

Thanks for the follow up on your missing albums. Those kinds of glitches do happen. They usually resolve within hours though, not days. Good to know.

We don’t have a confirmed appointment date for Gary yet, so as soon we get the info, I’ll let you know.  I worked through some things in the Google home app and took screen shots.  The link if below.  Then I took photos of my TV settings and info which is in that album also.  Showing home network and built-in Chromecast.

I show the wi-fi network on home, all of my devices are connected to the wi-fi.  I can cast from the computer and my phone without problems.  I noted that when I open the Google Home app and the Living Room, device  which is the TV, that when I chose ambient, Google Photos is not an option to show when in the ambient mode.  I’m missing something.  I hope the photos/screenshots give you some idea of what that is.

Thanks

Yeah – I see that Google Photos is not where it should be under ambient.

hmmm – you have a Pixel phone right? You actually don’t need the Home app to cast from Google Photos – Just open up Google PHotos, tap the 3-line menu and choose Photo Frames. YOu can choose albums there to be shown on the TV.

Let me know if that works for you.

Yes, I have a Pixel 4XL.  I have chosen Photo Frame in Google Photos and as my screenshot shows, I am “playing” two albums on my Living Room, which is the Sony TV.  Also 1 album on the bedroom TV.  The pictures show the Living Room, where I’m just getting the regular format.  Somehow I’m not in an ambient mode, or something else needs changing.

I found an app on the TV in Google Play that I set up to view albums in a slideshow, I believe it’s called Google Slideshow.  I snapped one of the pictures from our recent trip to the Amazon River  showing on the TV.  It’s included in the album below.

I don’t think I want to use that app on the TV, I’d rather set up everything to just play when ambient.

I just uninstalled Google Slideshow.  I went into the settings on the TV to see if any changes in the Screensaver settings would work.  I have taken pictures of the settings and the results with those changes.  I don’t see much help on the internet for the built-in Chromecast, and I don’t have any problems with casting individual photos to the TVs from the phone or my Surface Pro, but they don’t show as a slideshow

Thanks for working through this with me.  I hope I’m explaining this clearly.

I won’t go into everything that’s happened since my last post, but today I was finally able to contact Google about the issue with the photos not showing on my TVs.  It seems that Builtin Chromecast does not allow for Google Photos to be shown, only the chromecast devices.  I am going to send feedback to see if there is someway that can be changed.

I still cannot get Google Photo frames to appear.  The app says they are playing, but nothing shows up.  I guess I’ll contact a tech that is for Google Photos, as the one I had was a Chromecast expert.

Going Forward!!

You probably already watched this, but here’s a link to where we demo Photo Frames. See if there’s anything in there that helps.

The offer for a zoom call still stands.

Thanks, í I’ll look at that.  We are still waiting got an appt for Gary.  We’ve had a terrible month, one friends died an two others have been diagnosed with serious medical problems, so we’ve been pretty involved.

Because Google told me that the home so doesn’t work with built in Chromecast, I didn’t pursue whether that also affected the frames.

Thanks

Luverne,

So sorry to hear your news.

As for your photo frames – thanks for the info about it not working with built in Chromecast, I did not know that. But, that’s for TVs, weren’t you were talking about your Google Home Hub? That should work fine with Photo Frames.

Take care of yourself.
