Hello, I'm new to Geeks on Tour and joined to learn more about Picasa. I was very pleased to learn, after having joined, that you cover a broad range of subjects!

Anyhow, I've installed Picasa on both a laptop and desktop and now have a lot of photos on each. I would like to use my laptop (newer and larger hard drive) as my main source for photos. How can I go about moving my photos from desktop to laptop? Can this be done? I haven't done a lot of tagging, people face finding and etc, so if work is lost no big deal.

After getting all photos on laptop my next project is to then move many to an external hard drive to free up space. I've moved a few to the external from the laptop, but the desktop doesn't seem to recognize the folder or album when I plug the external in to it.? So therefore I'm thinking I need to move them all to one computer (laptop) then work on the external hard drive project. I've watched the #18 & 25 tutorial on moving to an external drive.

I guess this was really a 2 part question, eh? Any help will be much appreciated!

p.s. I'm loving Picasa, very powerful!

Beth,

Great question … and welcome to Geeks on Tour!

For getting pictures from one computer to another, see this article: http://picasatutorials.com/201…..-computer/

And, for using an external drive for your pictures .. go to the Learning Library for Picasa /picasa-learning-series/,  and watch #18 and #25

Let us know how it goes.

Hello,

The move of photos from my desktop to laptop went very well! Picasa made it very easy to do. Now I can start with the organizing and moving of older ones to the external HD.

One thing I did notice is that on my desktop Picaca sorted the folders by year, with an actual break in the folder view for year, then the folders were listed below that by however I had them labeled. Picasa on my laptop just has all the folders listed by the dates I have them labeled. There is no line break for the year.? Is there some setting I need to apply, or does a different OS affect this? I went from XP on the desktop to Windows 7 on the laptop. It's hard to explain, hope this makes sense!

So glad I discovered this forum. It's been very helpful!

That break by year is just Picasa's notation when you have the folders sorted by date.  you can also sort folders alphabetically – then there will be no year break.  Review the videos on Flat folder view vs. Tree View
