Have you mentioned Google Maps Timeline? I searched but didn’t see it. I stumbled on it by accident and find it very useful our blog and to recall what route we took. It knows so much it might be scary to some but you can turn it off totally or by date.

No, I haven’t written about Google Maps timeline yet. I’m not sure I have a good practical use for it.

You’re talking about the fact that, on a computer, you can go to maps.google.com – click the 3 line menu – choose My Timeline, and see a dot at every place you’ve been. It’s on a phone also, but you only see one day as far as I can tell.

Interesting that you use it to see your route. I’ll keep that in mind.

I see a route not just dots. It makes it easy to recap what we did during a day and how long it took. I’m bad about forgetting to write departure/arrival mileage time, etc. Also I can look back and see what routes we took for “next time”.

Way cool!

Thanks for the info. So, I had only looked at the timeline on my computer which defaulted to a year’s worth of marks.

Based on your comments, I explored a bit more and selected one day. It shows the startlocation, and time, the route, and even the time we stopped for breakfast at Cracker Barrel. And, if I had taken some photos there, they show up as well.

Thanks for the inspiration! You can bet I’ll be writing about this.

I just came up with another practical use 🙂  Balancing my checkbook I saw a charge I didn’t recognize – I made a note of the date and went to Google Maps Timeline to see where I was that day and verify that I was at that store!

That’s great! I found the car today using it. Forgot where I had parked.

New question re timeline: I want to post the timeline of the trip we did today into Blogger. Dang if I can figure out how to do it. (You’re going to charge me double membership for all the questions I ask!)

Well, there may be other ways, but I would take a screenshot of your timeline. Now it is a picture like any other picture.

If you’re using a computer, and you have Picasa – check out this video: https://geeksontour.com/2012/05…..n-capture/

If you’re using an Android phone, take a screenshot by pressing both the power and the home button at the same time.

If you’re using something else. Write back!
