It’s done at the Layer level. Click the layer, then the paint roller and select “Sequence of Colors and Letters”
Here’s a video that should help
No – it is part of my maps. How far do you get with your screen looking like mine in the video?
You should be able to click on a layer and then on a style and see this:

First: I am on a W10 PC.
When I click on the paint roller I have 4 options: uniform style, sequence of numbers, individual styles, style by data. That’s it.
That is why I thought it was an add on.
FYI: My nick name when I worked in computers was Black Cloud. I could crash anything given to me and was generally the final tester of “production” systems.

I have tried them all. None of them give me the tear drop with a “gradient” and a letter or a number. I can get the number and a circle with the “sequence of numbers”, no gradient. With “style by data column/name” I get the gradient but no numbers. This is no big deal just a puzzlement as to why I see something different. Since it is from the Cloud we should be on the same release but I couldn’t find and About to check the release.
I write a travel blog when we are on the road and want to put the map as the first entry showing where we are each night. Thought people would like that. The numbers/letters would show sequence and the colors just make it look spiffy. People remember colors better than numbers or letters.
I found the answer, Google deleted that option but Grandfathered it in for people who have been using it. I had looked in Google before for an answer but this thread did not show up.

It would also help if the help write-ups matched the program, just adds to the confusion.
Thanks for your time. We both have learned something.
Aha! good research!
This must have happened recently because, yes indeed, when I create a NEW map now – I only get the sequence with numbers option, no letters and multicolors.
My old maps have it though, and one of the messages in the link you sent suggested that you can copy an old map and use it to make a new one – then you have the multi-colored sequence option.
I will try sharing one of my old maps with you and see if you can use it and get the option you want. Watch your email …
and, don’t worry about messing anything up, it is an old test map I’m sending. I’m hoping you can make a copy of it for yourself, use the 3-dot menu at the top and choose Copy Map.

Thanks a lot. I will try it. I am getting a new computer today so it will be a few days before I am back to fooling around. I have also discovered I can incorporate a slide show(another item that has disappeared) if I build one in Photobucket(I assume others work). I have tested the slide show and it works fine. I also read that I can take pics from Google Photos to Photobucket, haven’t tried that yet.
I’m not sure I understand the PhotoBucket slideshow – how do you put that into your Google Map?
I am still able to add multiple pictures to a marker in Google Maps natively … I just created a brand new map to be sure it still works. Here is the link to that map. If you click the one marker “Liberty Harbor” you will get a pop up sidebar with an image and text that reads 5 photos. Click on 5 photos and you’ll get a manual slide show.
As a secondary photo storage online, I am using Windows OneDrive. PhotoBucket has been around a long time, but I’ve never used it.
Sue,
I just tried viewing your map using my iPad, and it worked fine. I even tried using Safari instead of Chrome and had no problem. I don’t think that having the maps app would be an issue, since my maps is strictly web based. My guess would be internet connection issues. Or something weird that could maybe be fixed by rebooting?
Let me know what you find.

You may want to move this to a new topic but I felt keeping all the Mymap questions under one thread would be beneficial.
I have not gone on my blog for several months. When I went on the blog I found the maps I had created via Mymaps were missing. I did not have a backup, my mistake. In all I lost 3-4 maps. Doing a Google this has happened to several people. I emailed Google but they have been silent. Have you heard anything about this.
I really liked Mymaps but will be changing to a “states visited” map instead so I can easily have a backup on my computer.
I am not expecting a solution, just a heads up for you.
Sue, so – your My Maps are no longer showing up in your blog. My first question is, do they exist in your My Maps account – maps.google.com, Your places, Maps? In Google Drive? Go to Drive.Google.com and search for the name of your map, it should be there with a red map marker as an icon. Or did you save a direct link to your map somewhere?
I do love MyMaps, but for my blog I want a static image so it will print out when I print my blog book. Besides, the embedded map is just a little too much for most people to handle. Check out my blog map page here: https://geeksontour.blogspot.c…..-maps.html
You’ll notice that only 2014 is a real, interactive my map. The others are all screenshots with links to the real my map.
Let me know if you find your map, or if you need more help. My Maps is SO much more than the visited states. 🙁

All my maps are totally gone. 404 message. They are not on drive nor in maps. This was more a heads up message. I didn’t expect a resolution as Google did something based on other comments.
At this point I don’t know what I think of the cloud as a place to keep things. If things can disappear with no acknowledgement from the cloud owner and there is no way to recover from things lost on the cloud I wouldn’t use it for anything other than transient items.
I am generally very good about backing all my stuff up each week but became lazy with my “cloud” only items. Another lesson learned. If I go back to Mymaps I will make sure I have my own backups on my computer and my backup disk.
Thanks for trying to help.
Yuk, that’s horrible. Try contacting Google Drive support
