I recently bought a new computer and Windows 8 was loaded on it. I am slowly figuring out how to use it. I am being told that the search feature is so powerful that is all I have to use to find anything. I’m not so sure of my ability to remember every file I have, especially with umpteen gigs of memory. I have thousands of pictures and most of the titles are img……… or just a jumble of 25 or so alphanumeric characters. I currently have several folders with 500 pictures each of rugs. I am a weaver and take lots of pictures of the really old ones. Isn’t there a file structure anywhere that I can use? I see something called libraries. Are these the same thing as explorer? Someone suggested I just rename them in groups. That would probably take years.
I have been using Picasa. How will it even find the pictures? Isn’t it looking for a folder called My Pictures? A lot of the changes make sense but there is so much that doesn’t. This isn’t a little tablet or a phone. Do I have to keep my pictures on an external hard drive in a file system and use Picasa on that drive? Will I be able to work with them through the USB port in the Win8 machine?
Thanks
Roberta Sauerwein
There is a folder called Pictures (aka My Pictures) in Windows 8 just as there was in Windows 7 – that has not changed. From Windows 8 main “Tiled” menu, just click on Desktop – now things work pretty much like Windows 7.
I use Picasa on my Windows 8 computer just the same as I did on Windows 7. I do keep most of my pictures on an external hard drive, just because that makes sense to me. So, when I got a new computer, I just plugged the USB drive into the new computer and told Picasa to use the pictures there. New Pictures are imported into the computer in the Pictures folder.
Did you watch the video on Picasa’s Folder manager?
Windows 8 does have a powerful search feature, but I use it to start programs or find computer settings. To find pictures I use Picasa’s search.
