We just purchased the dvd for Microsoft Streets and Trips at Staples on sale this week  for $20.  The dvd with GPS is on sale for $40. Good price if you need one.  It’s the 2011 version. Just FYI.

That is a good price, if only for the GPS receiver.

Microsoft skipped 2012, and just released the 2013 version of S&T.  It is not in stores, yet, hence the discounted prices on the 2011 version.  A 14 day trial version is available online, and I have a case of the trial DVDs if you are going to any of our Summer Tour locations.  I understand there are 240,000 miles of new roads included.  I have not yet loaded it on my computer, but saw only minor cosmetic changes to the interface.

More later.

I have the 2011 version, have you had time to learn more of the 2013 version and is it worth investing in it? I tried to download the 2013 megafile and of course could not do so. Has the 2011 megafile been updated since last year and can I update the version on my computer or do I have to buy the 2013 version of 2013 to get the latest megafile?

Thank you

The 2013 version is now out. Here is a link http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/…..#post43474 to information on the changes. Also, the Megafile available on the Discovery website is updated on a very regular basis. It is in 2010 format which can then be converted to 2011 or 2013 by S&T, automatically.

Hey David,

Your link to the 2013 review didn’t work for me.  Here’s one I found: http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/…..eets-trips

The current megafile is June – a 2013 file: http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/…..-travelers  and, Yes – you do need 2013 version of S&T to use this latest megafile.  If you don’t want to get 2013, then the latest megafile is April … available from the same link.

Should you upgrade?  Yes.  There’s not a whole lot of new functionality.  But the roads are updated big-time.  With other GPS units, you need to get updated maps … the way S&T works is that there are no ‘map updates’ but with each new version the maps are updated.

Hey Chris,

My link works for me and takes me the same place your link goes. As for the Megafile, the original that is the basis for the one on laptopgpsworld is located on the Discovery Owners site. Anyone can access the area for gps files. It is here http://www.discoveryowners.com…..cginfo.htm and it is updated much more often then what you are pointing to.
