LastPass shared passwords and smartphone usage

Hi,

Thank you for organizing the LastPass YouTube tutorial.   It was helpful to see the step-by-step process and the talk by Jolyn Bowler.     I had a couple of questions based on your own experience in using LastPass.

1.   My wife and I have one spreadsheet full of log-in accounts/websites  and passwords and then have our own individual smartphones and various laptops and desktops around the house or workplace.   There are some accounts that she or I will open up and  then others (like specific hobby sites or apps)  that only one of us will ever open up.    But we maintain 1 spreadsheet.    I couldn’t tell whether LastPass allows sharing of passwords across two users.   I believe you said that you two share passwords.  Is this correct?    I don’t think I want the family version where there are actual accounts per person, but maybe that is the only way.

2. How is LastPass activated on smartphones?   We both access our phones just by entering numbers (so no face recognition or finger ID).    Will we have to enter the master password every time we turn on our smartphones?   What is your experience/practice?   And then does LastPass send warning notifications to other smartphone owner that LastPass has been used on another phone (or laptop)?

Thank you.

Hi Scott,

You could both share one LastPass account and it would work similar to your single spreadsheet, but that is not recommended. You should each have your own account, then use the family system for shared folders of accounts and passwords that both of you use. That’s how Jim and I use it. You sign up for the family plan at $4/mo. That gives you up to 6 licenses – you would only use 2. then you have the ability to set up shared folders – that either of you can add items to and use all items regardless of who added them.

AS for smartphones, you just install the LastPass app (video coming soon) You will have to enter your master password to get it to work. Not every time you use your phone, but often enough. LastPass would send a warning if your account is being used on another device, but if you each have your own account that won’t be an issue.

Let me know if this helps.
