I downloaded photos to the computer from the cloud and they come through as a zip file, which I understand, but they come through in an HEIC extension and when I right click or double click it states Compressed (zipped) Folders Error Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created.
These are photos I want to send with an E-mail, so how do you convert an HEIC file to a JPEG? I see programs you can buy for $2.99, but they don’t have good reviews.
hmmm – I think something else is wrong.
I just tried downloading some HEIC files and the .zip file opened just fine. And, since I downloaded to a Windows machine, they were automatically converted to .jpg.
Are you on a Mac?
Any reason why you can’t email your friends a link to the photos, then let them download to their own computer?
Here’s a test …
- I selected 3 photos from my Google Photos
- All 3 of them are .heic files – plus they are Live photos (that means each photo will download as an image and a movie)
- I clicked the share button and chose to share a link, then copied the link
- Here’s the link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/MCqo…..9gvEEay1T7
- You should be able to open the link and see the pictures. Then, IF you want, you can click the 3-dot menu and download them. If you’re on a PC, they should automatically be converted to .jpg
Another option, if you use your phone, is to share directly to email.
Let me know what happens.

I think it is now opening with that irfanview.com that Jolyn told me to use; however, when I right click on it, it opens with a Batch-Convert Entry which is what I assume I downloaded by what Jolyn sent me, but then I still have to save it in another file as a jpeg before I can attach it to a normal email. I took a snip of it, but when I tried to put it in this E-mail where the normal photo would be, your system asks for a source, image descriptions and dimensions and I don’t know what that means or how to do that. I saved the snip as a jpeg and thought I could attach it to this E, so you could see it, but I couldn’t. Appreciate your help. I finally did get them to go where they need to, but it took way too much time and one of those issues, whereby you don’t really know how you did it. It’s just like the other comment you made when you looked at yours it came up with a “share” and when I do the same thing, there is no “share”.
Not sure what we can do at this point. I will play with it later and get back with you!

Chris, I’m available anytime today via Zoom or if you want to connect prior to the 3:00 UTube, that’s fine. I did download another photo a few minutes ago and it appeared in the lower left corner of my screen as a zip file and when I opened the zip file it did this time appear as a .jpg and a .mov and when I opened those, they appeared as a photos, so Idon’t know if the http: that Lolyn sent is doing this or is it something else?
Would be glad to find out an easy way to do this.
