As you know…I live in the past. I used Dropbox as a pass through from my phone to my computer. Now Drop box will not let me eliminate the pics in it to save space in dropbox. I am told to use sync and when I delete I understand that it will delete all of the pics selected on my computer. I know the purpose is to save hard drive space but I WANT the pictures on my hard drive. I cannot always be guaranteed an internet access. I have taken all the drop box pics to my hard drive. Now I want to eliminate the space in drop box and if I do it will delete all pictures on my computer!!
Is there anyway out of this situation. My phone takes the best pictures and I want them on my hard drive. When I select sync it will remove pictures anywhere on my computer..as I understand it.
And…I just hope I will be able to get back to your answer. We will be in Gillette but have absolutely no time to talk with you.
PS…..I did buy a USB data Cable and have unsuccessful in getting it hooked up right. Friends at HTR last year could not figure it out. If I can move pics to my hard drive with this cable this may be the only way I can do it. Meanwhile I just have pics in dropbox that I do not want to use sync and loose them from my hard drive. Need to go to your newsletters and see if you are back from your FL vacation! Roxie
Hey Roxie, sorry for the delay, we’ve been on a dive boat in the Carribbean this weel 🙂
I’m not sure what you mean by Dropbox will not let you eliminate pics on your computer to save space. I do this all the time … the key is to move your pictures out of the Dropbox folder (the only one that is synced) to the My Pictures folder – or somewhere else that Dropbox is not watcing – and Picasa is.
Review this video and see if that helps: https://geeksontour.com/2013/08/pics87-dropbox-camera-uploads-to-get-pictures-from-phones-and-tablets-to-computer-and-picasa/login
If not, and something has changed I don’t know about, come back here.

OK.. 33 miles out of Gillette…staying at Crazy Woman Green Tea campground close to campex. Just tried again to delete from drop box. same thing..I must use select and this takes them out of my computer The unfortunate part is my schedule the entire week for Maestros. I have many details all week to be sure they work as set up already.
Meanwhile I have come up with E mailing the picture to me and saving them this way. Laborious. Later. Roxie
We are in Rapid City now. We’ll be at the Camplex on Monday.
I still think we’re mis-communicating somehow on Dropbox. You can free up Dropbox space by moving photos out of the Dropbox folder on your computer, to some other folder on your computer.
- Find the Dropbox folder on your computer, your uploaded photos from your phone are probably in a folder like Camera Uploads, or something like that.
- Select one or two photos (just for a test) and Cut (Ctrl-X) them from the Dropbox\Camera Uploads folder
- Go to your My Pictures folder and whatever subfolder makes sense e.g. My Pictures\2018July and Paste those pictures you just cut from Dropbox.
- This process will move the photos out of dropbox. When the sync process happens, those photos will be deleted from your Dropbox account -thus freeing up that space.
- The pictures will remain on your computer in the My Pictures\2018July folder
I hope that helps.
I’ll bet we could find just a few minutes to get together in Gillette 🙂
