Cleaning up a really slow laptop

I need help!  My Fujitsu Lifebook T4210 Tablet PC with Windows XP Pro operating system is slower than Grandma's Molasses!!  I need help figuring out what I can do to clean it up, get rid of old stuff, and make it work again.  I used to love it…..now, not so much.  Are there some programs or whatever I can use to fix my old, slow machine?  I bought it in late summer of 2007.

Thank you for your help.  P.S. Jim, you sure looked pretty in your dress and sandals.  Congrats on being crowned Hoosier Honey!  Wish we were at the Gypsy Gathering to see you.  Hopefully, soon we will be able to be on the road again.

Mary,

CCleaner is the program I like for cleaning up and optimizing my computer.

You can download it here: http://www.piriform.com/cclean…..r/download.

CCleaner is the number-one tool for cleaning your Windows PC. It protects your privacy online and makes your computer faster and more secure. Easy to use and a small, fast download.

Read the instructions carefully, for this is a powerful program.  The program is free, but they do ask for donations.

Holy Sh_t (I'd like to buy a vowel, Alex), does that ever work neat.  I down loaded CCleaner and ran it and Eusing registry cleaner.  Before, I had 41 GB left of a 179 GB drive.  Now, I have 110 GB free.  Normally, I would not try programs like that, but with MrGeek's recomendation, I did.  WOW!  I think I will listen to him more often.

There is a 'Show-Me' video on CCleaner in our Learning Library in the 'Safe Computing' series.  As Jim says, read the instructions with CCleaner carefully – things may have changed since this video was made.  But, it will give you an idea of what it does.
