Hey Jean,
We have both Chromecast and Apple TV – both serve similar purposes, both have issues.
Chromecast doesn’t have to have a computer. When you plug it in to the HDMI port of your TV and set the TV’s input to that HDMI port, you will see a list of Apps – like Youtube and Netflix. Amazon Instant video is not among that list … yet. Here is a link to the current list of Chromecast Apps. However, Chromecast can also “cast” (meaning display wirelessly on your TV screen) whatever is in a Tab on your computer using the Chrome browser. So, using your computer, start Amazon Instant Video using the Chrome browser, then click the Chromecast button on your screen, and you should be seeing and hearing it on your TV.
We haven’t actually done that with Chromecast, but we’ve watched several movies from the iPad Amazon Instant Video app, playing on the TV via Apple TV.

Got chromecast and able to watch netflix and youtube but wanted the amazon prime free instant videos. After some web searching I found that you can get the video by doing the following
1. In chrome disable the silverlight plug in (Chrome:plugins)
2. Using the chrome browser start your video – it will say you need silverlight but if you look in the bottom part of the screan it will say watch using adobe flash – click button
3. Then cast your tab.
Just wanted to share — enjoy and tell Jim not to break any of your toys.

Thanks Jean and MsGeek for the info on Chromecast and Amazon Prime videos. We bought Chromecast so we could view a certain football channel and then watch it on our RV tv using Chromecast. We tried it at home, since the football station will stream on Chrome we could watch it on a home tv. But when we tried it at an RV park the web site connection there was too show and it didn’t work. Now I’m going to try it at home using Amazon videos.
