Renewing my blogspot

I just wrote a long post and was told this was outdated site. Before trying again I will post this first.

OK — it worked that time.

I am able to open my old blogspot on Chrome. When trying to write something to post I am having issues. I get stuck — first i cannot scroll (finger scroll) around the page; the only way I can get around is by using they arrows key. And then that does not always work as it freezes. It also freezes at any unexpected time. Sometimes when uploading a photo, sometimes for nothing.

Is there a tutorial that can help me learn what I am doing wrong, or simply what I need to do to write and post?

Thank you.

You are the same person who told me, via email, that you’re using an iPad – correct?

Writing and posting with Blogger.com is more difficult on the touchscreen of an iPad rather than a computer, but it should work just fine. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like on my iPad (click to enlarge). Does your screen look similar? I’m confused because you mention arrow keys and, unless you’re using an external keyboard, there are no arrow keys on an iPad.

Yes, that is what my screen looks like. I do use an external keyboard.

I cannot scroll around on the screen nor is that a scroll bar. As well, it freezes so that I cannot post or complete writing and entering photos. It is simply not working.

Yikes – I just tested on the ipad, and I created a post with more than just one line and one photo which is what I’ve done before, and I see what you mean. You can’t scroll around with the touch screen. Arrow keys on the external keyboard do work, but then, when you start typing, the screen jumps around. You would have to be very dedicated to make it work on iPad!  I know I’ve done this before – so maybe it’s an issue with the current iOS version, but right now anyway – It’s basically unusable. I tried Safari on the iPad and same results. Oddly enough, I decided to try it on my iPhone and it works fine. ??

I did a little research and found that you’re not alone, here is a thread from the Blogger support folks.

It looks to me like you do, indeed, need an app to work with Blogger on the iPad. The official Blogger app was pretty bad, and it has been removed from the App store. I do see a couple others, but I can’t vouch for them. The Blogger team has been promising a new app, but it’s been at least a year now with no word of a release date.

I notice that your current blog is done with WordPress – were you using the WordPress app on your iPad for this?

I am at least glad to know that it is not me and my ineptitude!! I have been using Wordpress app on my iPad and it can sometimes be squirrelly but not too bad. I can at least be successful using it. I just seem to prefer the format of blogger better. I suppose I should work with and learn Wordpress better and wait to see what happens (if anything) with a blogger app. I would like to use Wordpress through Chrome, but doubt I can do that through use of the app? Chrome seems smoother and cleaner to me than Safari when I am posting something.

Thank you for researching this and giving me this information.

I much prefer the Blogger site for simple, personal, blogs. Our personal travel journal/blog is done on Blogger. (GeeksOnTour.blogspot.com) I use WordPress for our business website here (GeeksOnTour.com) Blogger is much easier, and completely free. You’re using WordPress.com which is somewhere in between.

If your only option is using the iPad, then I think you are stuck with WordPress, unless you want to try one of the other apps now. I will keep a watch out for any changes and especially a new Blogger app.

Thanks Chris, I will keep my eye out for if a new app becomes available for Blogger. I use my iPad when traveling as it is so compact and easy for me to travel with, especially when on my bike. I have heard of Weebly blog site but am reluctant to try yet another platform. Do you know anything about that one?

I have heard some people say they like Weebly, but I have not used it. Blogger has so wonderfully suited my personal blogging needs for 16 years that I have no reason to look elsewhere.

Although Weebly does have a free option, they also have fee-based options, so I expect you are subject to them trying to upsell you. Blogger is completely free, with Google behind it.
