My Windows 7 bit the dust this past week!! Corrupted.  I  had the choice to get 7, 8,. or 10 loaded on my computer.  Since I was going to buy a Win 10 in Dec…..I got a new computer with win 10.  Dell

I have gotten to the place on your site to load Picasa and it says that the plug-in is not supported!!  Of course, without Picasa I am out of the blog business!!

You just took me through a reload on my now crashed Win 7.  I traded it in for parts.

Waiting for your advice and hope there is a way around this miserable mess.  I had Picasa 3.

Thanks…as always!   Roxie
Hope I can get back to this forum place for your answer.

Hey Roxie,

I have told you, haven’t I, that it’s actually easier to blog with photos from Google Photos than from Picasa?

Watch this video again: 473.Blogger: Adding photos from Google Photos

Yes, I know … that wasn’t your question!  So … I know that Picasa3 works ok with Windows 10 – there should not be any “plugin” involved. So, maybe something else is going on. Do you get that “plugin” message when you are downloading the Picasa installation file? or later, after you run it?

I got the plug in message when I tried to download Picasa from your site.  I did not get it downloaded.

I do not want to be confined to “cloud” pictures for working with on blogs.  I still want to use pics from My Pics.  Is this just impossible?

There must be something different on your computer – I just tried downloading it and it worked fine for me. I’ll email you the Picasa installation file directly – hopefully that will work without asking about a plugin.

As for cloud – once the pictures are used in Blogger, they are in the cloud. You’re just adding a step with Picasa.

Process with Picasa:

  1. Take pictures with phone or camera
  2. transfer pictures to computer
  3. Use Picasa to edit, then upload pictures to the cloud – either with Picasa or with Blogger’s upload
  4. Insert cloud photo into Blogger

Process without Picasa

  1. Take pictures with phone or camera
  2. Upload directly to Google Photos in the cloud
  3. Insert photo into Blogger

You can do it however you want, I’m just trying to save you a step. It especially makes a difference if you use your phone for taking pictures. With a camera it’s not as noticeable.

Using Google Photos…how do I make collages…as I can do with Picasa?  Have watched the video.  I use a lot of collages because I have so many pictures of rally events for Maestros.

Also….I do not take all of the pictures I use for blogs.  South Central Rally has completed and I have not been to Texarkana, TX.  However….I have been sent over 30 photos.  I put them into My Pics.  I don’t think they are in my cloud, right?

So..two questions:  collages? and pictures others take and send to me …are they in my cloud?.

OK, you got me at collages! I still use Picasa all the time, solely for it’s collage making features. You can make collages with Google Photos, but you don’t have any options. Still – after making the collage, I click the “Upload to Google Photos” button in Picasa so that all my pictures are in the same place. Here’s a video on that: 455.Making Collages with Google Photos or Picasa

As for pictures sent to you:

  • If the person doing the sending uses Google Photos, then it’s just one click to add them to your Google Photos library. Actually, it would be best to set up a google account for Maestros – then let people add photos there directly. They would need to be using Google Photos themselves.
  • If the person doing the sending just sends them to you via email – Then, yes, you’d have to save them from the email to your computer, then upload to GP.

I know, I know – you don’t want to figure all this out when you know how to do it just fine an old way. I’m sure you can get Picasa installed. Maybe we can come visit this winter in Leesburg and help you with Google Photos.

GOT PICASA 3  from your thumb drive.  Thank goodness I got it from you….I think in Perry last year!  None the less…it worked (after I figured out where the “computer setting on Win 10 was” so I could see if the computer recognized the drive.  It did and I clicked and in gave me an installation place.  All of my photos are backed up to Google now, also.  I watched this.

Remember, I am also struggling with the newness of Win 10 just gotten last Saturday.  Held on to Win 7 for about 6 years.  My win 10 was set up with a start up so this helps to a degree to find things.

So…I am now late in getting the South Central Rally Blog started but thank goodness I can do it.   I will go back and study all of your alternative ways to do blogs and even collages.

Many thanks….we owe you a free camping spot any time it is convenient!  Roxie

Did look at collages with Google photos.  Instead of less steps to make a collage it looks like more…and yes…the lack of control is not appealing.    Your suggestion to have folks send to Google Photos, if they have it, is not likely a usable alternative.  I get pics from a variety of folks with a variety of proficiencies!  But…thanks for sending me this info.  Roxie

Chris…I do not know where my last conversation is.  Often I cannot get back to a former conversation.  New Win 10 is now in place, almost loaded.  My problem continues to be with picasa and making collages.  I can get to blogger and using picasa get one picture to upload to the blog.  I think I was able to make a collage of no more than 2 pics from South Central Rally.  You suggested it could be my Internet connection (Comcast with an Alpha repeater ….never been a problem for many years).  So I am using my MiFi.  Again this morning I could not make a collage of 2 to 3 pics and get them to upload.  Just spins around.

I am unhappy that this problem started before my Win 7 croaked….I think. I am not totally sure when this started. My picasa is from your thumb drive.

Now what?  What has happened to make this change?

Using Dell Win 10.  Right now on MiFi jet pac but do not think this is the problem.

Hope I can get back to your answer.  Think I look for Picasa as a subject.

Hey Roxie,

I don’t know what is causing your problem. I went thru the process myself on Windows 10 and Picasa and I was able to upload a multiple photo collage.

If you have successfully created the collage – you can manually upload it to Google Photos and see if that works.

  • Go to http://www.photos.google.com – make sure you’re logged in to your correct Google account
  • Click the Upload link in the upper right
  • Navigate to the folder with the newly created collage (usually My Pictures\Picasa3\Collages\  or something like that)
  • click the collage file
  • OK or Open

Hope that helps.

Chris…I have not explained my collage problem clearly and did not realize this until trying to get the South Central Blog published.

The hang up is in creating the collage.   On the Picasa site I put the 2-4 pics in the tray.  Then at the top of the page I select Create>picture collage.  This is where Picasa hangs up and the circle just spins and spins and creates only a draft of the expected collage.  This is the same procedure I have used through the years to get collages uploaded to post.

I have  no problem with single pictures getting them to upload to Google Photos and then I insert the single picture into the blog.

Because of my intense delay on this blog (new Win 10 and reloadingEmbarassed  ) I felt I just had to get the South Central Blog out even with single pictures.  That rally ended Oct. 28.  Blog is waiting final approval from the area before I send out the Letter of Invite across the country.

So…I am sorry..until last night I did not realize how poorly I was explaining this problem of not being able to get a collage created.  Hope you have an answer now.  Remember…I loaded Picasa from your thumb drive.  From  your site it  had an error…which I have forgotten.

I hope I do not have to settle for single pictures in blogs!  Better than no blog for a rally, however.

Thanks for your help….Roxie   take a look:

Chris…I am about to experience my second total operating system crash.  I now have a contract with Premium Dell Support…bought late yesterday.  Last eve my computer just slowed to now being able to open anything so I called Dell.  Dell determined that the hardware was fine…using remote control….and finally located the culprit as Bitdefender, put on at the store where I got the computer.  They said it was too heavy and was also causing the intense slow down.  I was up until 1:45 AM this morning and they are calling me back very soon.  I will have them help take my data to an xternal HD, has room, and I also have Carbonite with my data.  Carbonite will have to send it via FedX…as my expense..small.

So…as you can see I will be reloading the entire computer and thus Picasa.  We will see if my problem with collages goes away.  They are recommending I use the installed Windows Defender…what is your explanation?  Why was Bitdefender put on…I have always thought that two antivirus protections fought.

I will be able to get back to you, looking for Blogs, using my other computer which is loaded with aol and GT.  This will be my second crash in less than two wks!

Prayers?Frown

Chris…I have now completed my second computer crash in two weeks. First was Wiin. 7 that just croaked;  Then the Win 10 was loaded with Bitdefender anti-virus.  I have a 24/7 help contract with Dell.  They felt Bitdefender was too heavy for the machine which was really dragging opening docs.

Now…I am ready to reload Picasa. Do I do it from this site or from the thumb drive I have?  I did use the thumb.  I was using PIcasa from it when I could not get multiple collages to upload to Google Photo while posting South Central Rally.  Waiting for your advice.

Many thanks….Roxie

Hey Roxie,

Since nothing has worked too well, I’m trying another approach.

I’ve emailed you a link to my Picasa installation file. Let me know how it goes.

I have my fingers crossed that it works well for you this time. I can’t imagine how much hair you must have torn out with 2 computer crashes in 2 weeks!

You mention that Picasa is now backing up the photos to google – no, Picasa only backs up photos to Google Photos when you select photos and click the green button to Upload to Google Photos. I’ll bet what you’re seeing is just Picasa’s finding the photos on your hard drive and making the thumbnails to view them in Picasa’s library.

Chris…I hope I told the photos to back up to Google Photos.  Been a few days.  Have had no time to try out the new Picasa.  That is next.  How can I tell if photos are with Google Photos?  Roxie

To see if your photos have been uploaded to Google Photos, go to photos.google.com and be logged in with your google account. You should see them all there in the Photos section

Any photos you’ve ever uploaded to Picasa Web Albums (or Google Plus Photos) will also be there. It’s just one storage space for photos associated with your Google Account.
