I have posts in live writer that I want to publish to my blog.  When I go to publish it asks for my user name and password.  I had those saved and it used to work just fine.  I did have to change my password in google and I tried that new password in live writer but it still won’t publish.  I am using Windows 7.  Live writer 2011.  My blog is: http://dixieandfranksrvtravels…..gspot.com/

How do I make the login for live writer and my blogger match so I can publish.  I’m months behind!! LOL

Any chance that you’ve turned on Google’s Two-Step verification?

If so, LiveWriter is one of those apps that need a specially created password. Here’s the info on special App passwords:

Let me know if this helps.

No I didn’t turn on two step verification.  I went to the link you sent and checked.  It is inactive.  I only use Livewriter on my laptop not any of my other devices.  The only thing I changed was the password in google.  Should I set up the two step verification?

Have you been to Blogger.com and tried signing in there? The username and password that gets you in there should certainly work in the Account settings in Live Writer. If you go to Blogger.com and see that you’re already logged in, I would Sign Out and Sign In again, just to be sure you have the correct username and password.  If you can do that, then go back to Live Writer, Blog Account->Blog Options and check that all 4 of the configuration items are correct:

  1. Blog Service (Blogger)
  2. Website Address (http://dixieandfranksrvtravels…..gspot.com/)
  3. Username
  4. Password

Let us know

I did all that and even went in and changed my password on both blogger and live writer.  Still get the wrong password or address message when I try to publish from live writer.  Very frustrating!Cry

Yes that would be frustrating!

Have you tried re-installing Live Writer? Or how about using a different default browser?

Here are some other messages I found by people with similar problems. No clear answer but a few things to try in here. These are Microsoft support forum messages, it looks like they are pretty responsive – if none of the ideas work, you could ask your own support question there.

If I reinstall Live writer what will happen to the 8 or so blogs I have ready to be published?  Is there a way to copy and paste into blogger as a draft and then publish from there?  They do have pictures in them.

I read the Live Writer error discussion, and I’m not comfortable changing settings like that.  I think I would rather re install the program.

I don’t really use gmail so not sure that message applies.

Glad to read your emails about the FMCA seminars.  I know they are very popular for those of us on the west coast.  We miss you when you are in Florida.

Live Writer saves your “save as draft” blogs in the folder “My Weblog Posts”, so reinstalling Live Writer should not remove the drafts. Of course, the drafts can be backed up with the copy command in My Computer to some other folder or drive first.

You can copy and paste your post from Live Writer to Blogger.com.  I think you can just copy your post from beginning to end and then paste into Blogger’s post editor.  Note: I just tried it and right-click paste did not appear but Ctrl-V did work.

But, I would use Live Writer in “Source” mode – there’s a tab at the bottom to do that. What you’ll then see is the HTML source code. Copy that and paste into Blogger’s HTML view. Then view the Compose view again.

Neither of these methods will get pictures from your computer however. Live Writer does some magic to actually upload your pictures to a Picasa Web Album (Google+ Photos now) then add the link to the resulting web photos in your blog.

If I were you, I would copy and paste a draft to Blogger – just for peace of mind. Then reinstall Live Writer – Larry is correct that your drafts are stored in My Documents/My Weblog Posts/Drafts.  Assuming all works well after the re-install, you can delete the drafts from Blogger.

Just curious to see if the original poster ever solved this problem.   I wrote up a new post in Live Writer today with the intention of posting it later when we have a better Verizon connection, but I am getting the exact same message from Live Writer.  It indicates that either my username or password for my Blogger account is incorrect.   It isn’t.  I just signed out of Blogger, then re-signed in with the exact same info. that Live Writer is trying to use.

Using Live Writer 2012 on a Win7 os on my laptop.

Hey Steve and Karen,

I believe the original poster did solve her problem, but the one you’re having is new. We’re all having the problem between Live Writer and Blogger now. Blogger updated the method for logging in to the account quite a while ago and told developers to update accordingly. Microsoft has not updated Live Writer and, as of a couple days ago, it no longer works. And, I don’t have a whole lot of hope that it will get fixed. Need to remember how to post to Blogger using Blogger.com 🙁

Here is a blogpost I found http://bitsnbytespicsnews.blog…..riter.html.

He suggests just using the blogger editor. You must be online, though, I think.

Thanks guys. I did some further research after I posted this here and found out that I definitely was not alone.  I’m with you Chris, I don’t see this issue being resolved unless Google changes their login protocol.  I don’t really see any incentive for Microsoft to change Live Writer for it.

At least I know that I wasn’t screwing up attempting to logiin and send my info. to Blogger from Live Writer.  I almost never use Live Writer unless we are in a “bad” Verizon area.  I guess Google has succeeded in forcing me back to Blogger to write up my blogs.

Wow! Microsoft and Google can communicate. The problem seems to be fixed. You can use Live Writer to post to Blogger again.

See more details on this Microsoft thread.

However …. I switched back to using Blogger.com to create my posts for the last year or so. When Live Writer uploads photos, it creates an album in your Google Photos. I prefer using photos from my uploaded albums. That is the procedure I show in this video:

Yes I tried it this afternoon and it seems to be working again.

I rarely use Live Writer, but when I do, I just put in a placeholder where I want a picture inserted for my blog.

Then send the whole “draft” to Blogger.

I can then go in and choose the pics I want to add from my Google+ albums which I have already uploaded from Picasa.

Thanks for the quick response to my original question Chris!

I actually love Live Writer and use it all the time for my Wordpress sites, and even a couple of other blogger sites that I write for – just not my personal blog which uses my monthly pictures that I already have organized in Web Albums (Google Photos).

The way Live Writer automatically uploads the pictures to the blog’s image hosting location and displays them in the post is really fantastic. It means I can even take a screenshot and paste it into the Live Writer screen as I write a post.  When Live Writer publishes, it creates a picture file from the screenshot and uploads the automatically named picture to the appropriate place to be hosted for the blog. This is an incredible time-saver.

I love this method for Wordpress sites because photos are hosted within the website’s own file structure (geeksontour.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/xxxx.jpg). There are no albums that will be seen elsewhere.

With Blogger – all photos uploaded to “Blogger” are actually hosted in Google Photos Web Albums. So I have an Album called “Windows Live Writer” where those photos go. Every time I post a new photo using Live Writer, that album gets updated and it jumps to the top of the list. Just ugly.
