I started my own personal blog today. It was easy using the Geeks tutorials.

:-)

Good Job! Great collages for your pictures.

You might want to make the body of your blog a bit wider so the collages fit better. You do that by using the Template designer, here’s the video:

As you’re going thru the videos, please let me know if any of them are so out of date as to not be helpful. Many Blogger commands have changed location since I made the videos, but still work the same. But some things have changed more drastically and I should re-record the videos.

Thanks for the tip about using “Template Designer” in Blogger. I did go in and change the width of my posts and sidebar. My photos still crowd into the sidebar but I can live with that small encroachment.

The video about embedding a map in your post (blog14.Add a Google Map to your Blog Post #059) was difficult to use. Google must have changed “Google Maps” a lot. Your screen share in the videos and what I can see now are not close to being the same. I have added a link to my custom map in my post and am still working on using HTML to embed the map itself.

Thanks! You’re right – the blog14 video is too outdated to be useful.  I will re-record it now. Meanwhile, be sure to watch the custom map videos in the Google Maps section:

  1. Creating Custom Maps #328
  2. Adding Pictures to Custom Maps #329
  3. Viewing and Sharing Custom Maps #330

Note: “Custom Maps” is now re-branded back to its old name of “My Maps”

Ok, here’s the new video:

Embed Google Map into a Blog Post

Got it to work after I changed my map to “allow all to see” from “allow those with URL to see”. This was what held me back. I had found “Embed in my site” menu choice but it would not display HTML until I changed who could view my map.

Thanks

Good job Michael! I forgot about that visibility setting. The sample I was using had already been set to Public.
