Different Authors for a blog

A group of us are going on a 6 month RV  (11,000 mile) journey together. I have set up a new blog separate from our own blog that I am hoping we will all contribute to and share with all our family & friends. I have set up a new gmail account so it is a totally separate entity. I have watched the video on adding authors but it is on Bloggers old format so not quite the same. I see there is a place to Add Authors and has an Invite ‘button’. I assume I add each persons email address and ‘Invite’ but then what? How does it work? How does each person sign and use their own name when posting?

Thanks for your help.

Hello Pat,

How cool that you plan to have everyone on your trip blog about it!  If you’re going to make it public, make sure to show a link here OK?

Great question!  I’ll put it on my list to make a new video 🙂

Yes, Invite is the way to start.

  1. As the owner of the blog, you invite others to be authors.  Enter their email address.  They will need to have a google account – so, if they have a gmail address already, use that instead of any other email address.  If they accept an invitation with another email address, they will be asked to start a google account with that address and it will be very confusing for the future. So, find out if they already have a gmail address (or an existing google account with another address).  You might even ask them to set up a gmail address before creating the invite.
  2. Invitations are received by the person and there is a link for them to accept.
  3. Once someone has accepted an invitation, they can go to Blogger.com – log in with their google account – and your blog will show up in their list of blogs.  They can create new posts, or edit past posts that they have created.  They cannot edit other people’s posts, or change blog settings.
  4. If you want one of the other authors to be able to edit other’s posts, or change blog settings, you can go back into the permission settings and change them from author to Admin.

Hope that helps.

Have Fun!

Chris,

Thanks for the info on how to do this. It is exactly what I needed to know. I am hoping that we will all contribute. It would be a lot for one person to blog all 11,000 miles of our trip. Not only that but will make it more interesting to have several perspectives.

Pat
