I think I already know the answer to this question, but I’d like to hear the response anyway.
I was in the “Design” section and looking at my comments. I decided to clear out the content, so I selected “Delete” thinking
that it would only clear the list. When I returned to actual view the blogs, I noticed that all of the comments I had deleted
were now missing from the end of each of my daily blogs.
Is there any way to recover these comments, or (as I suspect) they are gone?

Yeah … it doesn’t sound good. I checked and I don’t see a category of comments for ‘deleted’ – some systems do.
A couple of possibilities though. You may be able to restore them if you have a backup of your blog for the time of the deleted comments. Or, if you have comment moderation on so that you get notice of comments via email – there may be a way to manually add them back in from those emails.

Chris,
Here’s what I found out. I had previously saved each month of my blog per your video on saving the contents via the complete .html “save as” under IE.
I went back and attempted to look at one of these files and it does show everything which was on my original blog page (even the temp. on that date according
to my weather widget). At the bottom is said “5 comments”. At this point I thought great! Not so fast. When I clicked on “Comments” nothing appeared.
So, it looks as though if you delete the comments as I did, then you are out of luck using the “previously backed up” web page method.
Oh well, at least I didn’t destroy the content of the pages.

Yeah … that method of backing up gets the pictures copied locally, but doesn’t get the comments. It’s the Export method that will get the comments as well
I also thought, maybe the Wayback machine would have a backup. I love the wayback machine for finding something I had lost on one of my websites, but alas, when I looked at an archived copy of my blog and – no comments.
