I created a blog in 2005, and would now like to change the name. I am able to edit the blog text or title, but can’t seem to locate anything allowing me to rename the whole blog. Is it possible? Or do I need to create a new blog name and copy the old blog content to the new, then delete the old?

You can change the Blog Title at any time, it is just the words that appear on the home screen.
You cannot change the URL, the web address for the blog.
What you would do is create a new blog with the desired location, then export the old one and import into the new one.

I gather, then, that what I am calling a Blog Name is, in fact, part of the URL?

That’s certainly what it sounds like to me. If what you want to change is the xxxzzz in http://www.xxxzzz.blogspot.com then the only way is with the export/import procedure.
