I am on a mission to backup blogger. I have the content and the theme backed up. I can’t figure out how to back up the pictures and video. I copy the pictures and video into blogger from my files(not in Google Photo). Blogger must store them someplace and from what I read they are not copied when I back up the content. I also have some gadgets I use. Do I need to back the gadgets up? if so how?
One additional question: When I backup the content is only the published content backed up or are the posts I am working on also backed up?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Backing up your blog is sticky, as you’ve discovered. There is no one perfect method, but there are several options depending on your purpose. My favorite is to have a printed copy – if that works for you, you can skip to the end of this entry.
I do have videos that show 3 ways to backup a Blogger blog. These are old videos and the screens and steps may have changed a bit, but the concepts are the same. The onldes one, #57, I just tested and it does still work on the Chrome browser – it’s actually pretty cool.

- 102.BL-old-Duplicate your Blog to WordPress.com
- 057.BL-Back up your Blog, Including Pictures
The Blogger utility to to export your blog (video 144) is just for the html text and code. That is the content of your blog posts, but not your photos or videos – they are hosted elsewhere and simply referenced by the html.
Duplicating your blog to WordPress is essentially the same thing, it sends the html over to Wordpress, so you have a duplicate blog, but the photos and videos are still hosted elsewhere.
Only the 3d option gets all the content, but it is quite a lot of work, going month by month, and it creates hundreds of files.
What I do is use Blog2Print.com to create a printed version of the blog with all the content and photos – no videos. I actually like having a hardbound, printed book, but I also get a .pdf version just for backup purposes. If my Blogger blog should ever die, I have the .pdf copies. They only cost 7.95 and I believe that’s for unlimited pages.

I read/viewed your info and decided that I had technology already to do a print of my blog and put it into a pdf. That will preserve my verbage and a print of my pictures. Next phase will be to create a copy of all my pictures and videos and tuck them into the same folder(long term project). I also take a blogger export and out in the same folder. Hopefully that covers me for backups but as with all backups, you never know until you need them.
Thanks for all your help.

Have you heard of Google Albums Archive? I just learned about it and will be playing with it. Seems to have all my pictures from my current, active blog. No past pictures but I need to spend more time and reading about this. I found a download link but haven’t tried it yet.
Now I have Google Takeout and Albums Archive to learn about. Is there a way I can be on a distribution list for new Google products? I keep getting surprised……………..Some are good, some are bad, most need a little work.
Sue, Google Album Archives took over when Picasa Web Albums was removed. It is kind of the “back end” of google photos and Blogger photos. You can see albums there, but there really isn’t much you can do with them in Google Album Archive.
As for Google Takeout – that is the facility for making backups of any or all data that is created and stored in your Google Account. For example, if you make new maps now – it’s Google Takeout that you’ll use to back them up.
As for being notified of new google products, this is their official blog.
I’m still distressed that your maps went missing though. Have you tried contacting support? Google Drive is one of the areas where you can do that. Here is the info for contacting Google Drive Support

I am upset also with my loss of maps. I was finally converted over to using the cloud and then this happened. When I googled the problem of missing maps I wasn’t the only one. I did send a note to support and never had a response. I have switched my blog over to using one of those US maps and I have a copy on my PC.
Now that I learned about Takeout I may try again. It will take a while as we are in travel mode and my blog keeps me busy enough.
Thanks for the support.
See you at Escapade…………………….
