How do I add old blogs created under an older email addy to another Gmail addy?
Thank you!

Kay,

Just to rephrase your question: you don’t add a blog to an email address, you add an email address to the blog. So you need to be able to sign in to the blog with the address that created it. Then you can add the new address.

It’s actually quite easy to add a new admin to an old blog – as long as you can sign in with the current Admin/Owner account. How it works is the current admin (old address) needs to sign in to Blogger and invite the new address to come in as an author. Then you make the new address an Admin. From now on, either one can write posts and manage the blog.

  • Sign in to the blog with the current google account
  • In the left menu/sidebar select Settings and scroll down to Permissions
  • Select “Invite more authors” and enter the new Google account @gmail address here, then Send invitation
  • Open the email sent to the new address and “Accept Invitation”
  • Once the Invitation has been accepted, you need to go back to Blogger with the old address.
  • Settings, Blog Admins and Authors. Here you should see the new address listed as an Author. Click the dropdown arrow and select Admin.
  • Save

Let me know if that helps.

Thank you for your informational response. The instructions you give is not an option. I don’t know how I did it but I was able to change the email addy on the 3 blogs (vintage 2006) to my most current addy. Now they have been added to my “reading list” on the current blog account. When I signed into blogger using the old blog’s original email addy, under the Setting menu, I can only click into “User Profile.” There is no “permission” option to change the administrator. Somehow, it feels like Blogger doesn’t look like it should. I attached screen shots for the most current blogger page. Am I in the right place?

Kay,

Just checking – did you click on Settings? Or are the screenshots taken after clicking on Settings?

Being able to “read” a blog is not the same as being the owner and able to manage the blog. Think of it like the display window of a store, anyone can look at the manequins in the window (read) but only the store owner can unlock the door, go inside and change the clothes on the mannequins, or add a new manequinn. Those are the menu items you’re not seeing. When you are signed in to Google as the user who owns the blog, then blogger.com will look like this screenshot. blogger.jpgImage Enlarger

So, this is not good. Do you know the email address that was originally used to create the blogs? That is the owner, the admin of the blogs. And, if you haven’t signed in to that old account for more than 2 years, Google may delete the whole account, including any blogs owned by that account. You need to try to sign in to Google with that old account.

If you want to do a Zoom call so I can see your actual screens, let me know.

Can you give me the web address of the blog you’re trying to manage? Maybe I can see something from that side.

Sorry for the slow reply. I became alarmed when I saw that message about Google shutting down unused addresses. I’ve not signed into each of those emails. Yes, I sent most of those photos after opening settings. I wonder if the problem is that I don’t have a blog associated with the email addy that I want to transfer everything to. If you can take a look at the blogs I want to reassign to the new email manager (kayacooke@gmail.com) that would be great. A Zoom session might be very helpful…tomorrow? I tried making blogs a long time ago using different gmail addys.  I’m sure I was flying by the seat of my pants! Can I have several different blogs associated with one email but are private from each other? Thanks so much, Chris!

I too would be concerned about the possibility of your old account being deleted, and your blogs going with it. I recommend you get a .pdf made of your whole blog, just for peace of mind. Here’s the instructions: Tip032: Make cofee table books from your blog posts

I sent you an email with a link for a zoom meeting. I look forward to hearing from you. I took a look at your blogs and I do see a different email associated – wo we’ll definitely have something to work with during our meeting.
